This was a very well made video, with good information about cane handle making.
First off, I must say that I know Tony Clennell a bit, and have met Sheila.
Next, I'll say that I love their pots. They are professional, dedicated, inspiring potters who make fabulous, beautiful pots.
And I love Sheila's handles and other ways that she adds her artistry and skills to their pots.
The instructional content of the program is fine; as I said, Sheila's work is wonderful, and she knows how to explain what she does and why she does it.
But the video is a disappointment. It seems to have been produced very amateurishly. The video is not great and the sound is terrible, with most of it having been overdubbed afterwards, and the resulting product seems to rely on the images more than explanations.
Compared to Tony's "Macho" video, this one is weak.
Yet... even knowing all this, I still bought it. I'm just disappointed that the production was so poor.
This was a very well made DVD. I would have wished to see her face during the demo but realize that the tape was done with voice over so that wouldn't have been good. The drums could have been a little quieter. It gave me the basic information so that I feel I can go ahead and design my own handles now.
Great video. I learned a lot about simple additions to pottery that turn them into "Art" and completely change the nature of the pot. I would like to watch it again.
Good DVD - the examples of how to use cane where outstanding, good for the creative juices. Cane additions make for stunning pieces.
