Good intro to VIP. This video provides a brief overview of VIP and the components needed to start. Basic concepts and techniques are shown in this video. I would recomend this video for people who are looking to start VIP but don't know exactlly what is needed or how much $$$ is needed to start. If you are already infusing sucessfully, this is not for you.
This video is good for giving you a list of what is needed, and cost but only that info. It does not show how to lay up a job at all and what layer goes where. Not even in the basic vacuum bagging section. In the basic vacuuum bagging section it only talks about the bag and tape briefly and not at all on the layering. Seems only to be a teaser for the second video, which I'm sure is great.
I have been involved in several facets of plastic part manufacturing, but fiberglass lay-up is new to me. For the larger projects, I can not see hand applying glass cloth and resins for anything as large or larger than the Dingy featured in this video. I have seen tooling for checking the shape of a helicopter being hand laid in the early 1980's. What a laboreous process. This process, along with vacuum bagging, is amazing as the resin flows through the dry cloth contained by the vacuum bag.
The cost for this DVD may seem high at first, but the content, including tips and estimates, for the equipment to perform the process pays for the rental immediately. My wife had no idea what I have been babbling about with fiberglass work and she was blown away at the film quality, let alone the content.
As a basic introduction to VIP it was fairly good. Not a very polished presentation, but useful. The service from SmartFlix was great and I'd definitely rent again and recommend to friends.
I thought this was a very well laid out, thorough and easy to understand introduction into the vacuum infusion process. Image and audio quality were excellent, the demonstrations were well prepared and clearly explained. This DVD was what I was hoping for, an overview and process outline of the steps, materials, and equipment involved in VIP.
Good information but very basic. If you know anything about VIP or RTM this is not worth the time.
