Classic Rudy Kouhoupt. He takes you through various setups and tooling including how to sharpen some mills.
The first 45 minutes of this video is pretty dull, it focuses on tramming the machine. I'm not a very advanced hobby machinist, but it was too basic even for me. Also, Rudy speaks very slowly. It's better to watch the video with a program like WinDVD which allows you to slightly speed-up the playback speed.
The DVD gets a lot better starting in Chapter 3, he covers some clever setups, general pointers, endmill sharpening, indexing, etc. Overall a worthwhile rental.

The production quality could have tolerated a little improvement, but the content was very good. I learned a few handy tricks that made it very worthwhile to rent.
I knew what to expect from this tape - I read about it numerous times in various machining magazines. I liked it a lot, though I could see how the maker could have improved things a bit.
Loaded with good stuff, as much unplanned as planned. What is "medium-speed feed?" Only watching it actually being perforned will give you the feel all machinists have to develop.
Not what I could consider "Advanced", pretty basic. Not as good as the Mini Machines 101 series.
Good video, a bit slow at first, but shows the basics for getting an accurate cut from a mill. More advances setups at the end.
I'm used to Rudy's slow pace so that was not a problem. The info presented was very helpful plus I saw some items in his setup that I want to copy. The time was very well spent.
Don't waste your time, there is nothing advanced in this video. He states that you should already know the different types of cutters and there uses but continues to show you a dull tool from a sharp tool??? Don't you think if you already know the different types of cutters and there uses you would know if they were sharp or not? Author spends a lot of time on tramming the mill. Show you a boring tool and how he sharpens an end-mill. To me I didn't see the Advanced Aspects of Milling, maybe you will.
It seems as though Rudy's advanced videos are often the ones with a little less talk. He often deals with machine accuracy issues, and indicating in pieces. They aren't advanced in that they will teach you secrets of the trade, though usually he has a plan in mind and you will be able to take on a surprising number of tasks if you learn to apply all the techniques shown. I normally rent the advanced videos first, and get the basic ones at a later date if I feel like more info. This video would be excellent for someone buying a second hand mill because it teaches how to check and correct accuracy problems.
I always learn something from Rudy's videos.
very good and into great detail about how to set up a milling machine correctly. At times the video moved a little slowly, but Rudy seems to be a great teacher. The part about how to sharpen end-mills was informative, but probably not something most hobbyists would do regularly. The proper way to use dial indicators and edge finders was very helpful to me. I enjoyed this video and was glad to hear him say to use your imagination and try different things. If they don't work quite right the first time, "so what?".
Rudy brings forth a lot of information, this is worth the watch.
Lots of interesting ways of dealing with milling problems. I am not a machinist but enjoyed the gems of info I gleaned from this DVD.
This was my first exposure to Rudy's film presentations, and it was underwhelmed. Master machinist yes. Film producer? The jury's still out. I got a LOT more understanding out of the Darrell Holland series.
The author really gets into it! No flashy video special effects - jut a guy with a machine...Hey, it worked for me!!
This is a very good video. I will be checking my mill/drill out very carefully! The old boy knows his stuff. I recommend it if you have a mill or are looking to buy one.
The video was very informative if you have a basic understanding of milling and milling machine operation. Rudy is an excellent teacher. Organized, without stuttering and duplication. Everything he did in life was to the very best of his ability at the time, and this video is no exception. His books are excellent too. No, I'm not related to him.
I own a Bridgeport series 1 knee mill, the only difference between mine and the presenter's is size. A mill is a mill. . . It's just the size of the work piece. I can honestly say I didn't learn anything from this video - I considered it rudimentary or maybe basic, nothing to do with what I consider advanced. I will say I was reminded of three things. It's impressive that the presenter made a significant amount of his work piece holders but then, what machinist (home or professional) with a little knowledge of what he wants to do and the machine(s) to do it with, doesn't. If you have the money, you buy it - if not, you make it. Scotty
Note that this video is based on the Benchmaster vertical mill rather than the Atlas horizontal mill featured in his more basic video. But, overall, its well done and I learned quite a bit, even though I have been using a milling machine for some time. Thanks.
