These two videos are really good. I like to read and can usaually learn what I want through a good books, but there are certain procedures like metal polishing firearms, which reading about isn't quite all one wants. To see how Shuey polishes metal without rounding edges or dishing screw holes is worth the price of admission. The actual mechanics of hot caustic bluing are of little interest to me; the types of guns I work on deserve better; but the details of cold rust and nitre bluing which are typically used on things like old trap guns and ancient O/Us were very interesting and nicely demonstrated.
Very good at explaining techniques for abrasive work and tricks to do a good restoration job.
Another great presentation from AGI!! Very detailed presentation for the home 'Smith' to produce controlled color in a variety of ways!! The presentation on metal prep is worth the price of admission ( and one of the most important steps in proper bluing )!!
High quality video. Very professional. The quality of the close up shots, shows the detail nicely.
Gene Shuey does a very good job of showing the different ways available to refinish and what it will take to setup the method you chose. If you are interested in bluing your firearm yourself, renting this set will walk you through several ways to do it.
You should be familiar with disassembly of the firearm you are working on as that is not covered here. Tips are provided for dealing with certain assemblies ans surfaces but no specific firearm tear down is covered.
Really informative, I thought this video is worth watching. However I did watch the entire video on x2 speed, as the speaker is a slow talker, and drags things on.
Good video quality, but again the speaker is kind of slow, even watching this one at x2 speed, I was wanting to fall asleep. Good video if your new bluing.
A very good video! The metal finishing tips are well worth watching. No, it's not the most exciting video out there, but it's full of information. If you're considering hot bluing firearms, this video is a must-watch. Even if you just want to understand the process better, it's still worth it.
Although I personally have little interest in caustic bluing the metal prep portion of this DVD is very informative.
Found this DVD delivered extremely detailed and complete, easy to understand instruction. I would highly recommend this DVD for someone with at least intermediate skills in cleaning and polishing steel as these skills are not covered here( although their importance is highly stressed).
I thought it was a very good video with extensive detail in all phases of the proceed. I feel with my abilities, it would be no problem to produce a good finish the very first time.
The only thing I feel it did not answer is how many guns the mix would do before being depleted and how long the chemical would keep (mixed) to be used again.
The bad part is when I looked at prices for the material and equipment, this is not something you can afford to have setting around to do 3 or 4 guns a year
As with Gene Shuey's other AGI videos, you get excellent detailed advice on refinishing all types of firearms. The metal refinishing information in this video is useful even if you plan to use spray on coatings instead of bluing, or want to refinish stainless steel firearms.
