Here you will watch an experienced craftsman demonstrate the correct method of cutting, fitting and stick-welding round pipe.

I've read negative reviews for other DVDs from the same instructor. And I agree with one criticism, these videos are not "professionally" produced.

No, the work is not performed on a set in a sound stage. And the footage appears to have been shot in an analog format. We're standing in this man's garage/shop while he teaches us his techniques for working with the unique geometry of round pipe.

And I am always grateful when craftsmen, in their respective trades, share their tribal knowledge with those of us who are curious enough to watch and listen. Gregg does that in each of his videos.

If someone is going to take the time and effort to make an instructional video, the least they should do is learn proper techniques of producing good sound and video quality so that the information can be understood by its viewers. All the videos in this series have very poor sound quality because of fans and compressors and other noises in the background. The instructor also leaves out critical details about the welder, such as amperage, polarity, and type of rod. I was very dissatisfied with all the welding videos in the series by this instructor.

While much of the information is good, the video is not very well done. The video jumps in as if it was cut from a larger, more comprehensive video. The welder covers the material, but there does not appear to be much though given to what is presented before hand. He does not cover how to make patterns for cutting saddles, though he mentions that he made one. He does not cover how to cut saddles for weld two different sizes of pipe together. The instructor seems to have difficulty relating to his students through the camera. Information about controlling the puddle and setting the welder up for performing the weld is also lacking.
