Beginning engravers are strongly encouraged to start with the first three DVDs, which provide the basis for an understanding of the skill. Learn about the neccessary tools and how to prepare them, font styles, how to lay out work, practice drills to learn how to cut well with the gravers, and many other topics. The remainder of the series is subject-specific, with one major idea per DVD.
These three DVDs provide the foundation for hand engraving. Mr. Tamme explains and demonstrates:
* Tools: names, preparation, use and sharpening.
* Lettering: styles, designing, layout, practice exercises.
* Monogram: styles, designing, layout, practice exercises.
* Master Plates: design, layout, cutout.

The instructor is obviously knowledgeable. The information is excellect. On the other hand, the lessons move at a snail's pace. If one wants to continue the series, patience is absolutely necessary.
I rented DVD #2 and had high expectations. Alas - I was very dissapointed in both the verbal presentation and the demonstration of the technique used to form fonts. Mr. Tamme should have employed someone with verbal skills to present what he was "trying" to accomplish with the graver. As far as a demonstration "how to" DVD it is woefully lacking. Save your time and money unless you have insomnia!
Like the information and found the material to be very educational. I look forward to putting it into practice!
I wasn't very impressed with these 3 DVDs on engraving! Most of the content was drawing and laying out letters. I would have liked more actual engraving. In the past I ordered your single DVD on engraving by Lynton McKenzie and I enjoyed that one very much! That DVD had far more content in one disc than these three put together. I have ordered quite a few of your rentals and was very happy with all but these three! I guess a little rain must fall on al of us! Thanks for your service, Norman Thomas
