Hand Scraping is a technique for creating or restoring very very flat surfaces. It is critical to rebuilding 'Big Iron' machines. It's an old-timey technique that still pays off *big* when you're trying to build a new machine or engine, or make an old tool working like new. A lot of people consider hand-scraping a 'black art', which they think they can never pick up on their own...but they don't realize how wrong they are. This excellent video demonstrates everything you need to know about handscraping: what a scraper is, how to sharpen a scraper, how to hold your scraper, how to apply force, marking your workpiece, how long your strokes should be, cross cutting and chatter, etc.
