Smith, Mike Rehmus, Jose Rodriguez, and Dave Gingery that you can keep as long as you want, the ability to cancel at any time, and with a low monthly price of just $22.95 , this is a bargain that you can't afford to miss!
Q: How many DVDs do I get at a time?
A: Up to three per month.
Q: Once I subscribe, can I quit?
A: Yes, you can quit at any time at all. Just send us an email and you're out - no more charges, ever.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: Just $22.95 . That's a huge savings over the $249.00 or so it would cost to buy three new DVDs each month, and a big savings over the normal rental cost.
Q: How much is shipping?
A: It's free!
Q: How much are late fees?
A: There are never any late fees!
Q: Can you clarify how the "three DVDs out-at-a-time, limit three per month" plan works?
A: Let's say you sign up on the 10th of the month. Your month then runs from the 10th of each month till the 10th of the next month. We'll make sure that you always have three new DVDs to watch in your home. We do it by sending out up to three DVDs during each month.
So, you sign up on the 10th. We mail you three DVDs immediately. If you return one of them a week later, we accept the return, but since we've mailed you three new DVDs this month, we wait until the next month. As soon as the 10th of the next month rolls around, we send you one DVD, so now you've again got 3 DVDs in your home. A week after that, you return two more dvds. We immediately replace them, so that you again have three dvds.
Q: Will my university subscription send me DVDs that I already ordered as a SmartFlix customer?
A: No! We track what you've already rented, and we won't send out duplicates.
Q: What order do I get the DVDs in?
A: We can't promise that you'll get the dvds in exactly the order listed below, but we do absolutely promise that we always send items out in an order that makes sense: you'll never get disk 2 in a set before disk 1. More generally, we use customer feedback to structure the universities in an order that makes sense - basic stuff first, then more advanced topics.
Q: There's a DVD (or two, or three) on the list that I don't want to see - can I subscribe to Lathe and Milling Machine University, but somehow not get that DVD?
A: Sure thing! Just subscribe to the university, then send us an email telling us what DVDs you want to skip.
Q: This is a pretty awesome deal, isn't it?
A: Yes, it is!

For the beginner, the Lathe and Milling machine University program provides the essentials of machine shop work utilizing machines that the hobbyist can afford. Well illustrated by example, fundamentals of measurement and positioning are clearly shown. Many work holding methods are given in the videos that will be of use as well as some specialized machining techniques. The experienced machinist may find the program simplistic but learning the fundamentals correctly certainly makes the program worth your viewing time.
I could not be more pleased with your selections and your service. I have wanted to see various of the titles that I have already rented for quite some time but just could not see paying the expense to buy them. Your service fills that requirement for me very nicely. Thank you for all of your help and understanding. Your customer service is just one of the things that makes you a great company with which to deal.

You can always learn something so I like it. The only time I get hung up is when I get rebuilding the mini lathe lesson - I don't have a mini lathe!
Lots of good information. The DVDs seem to be sent in random order. Most University courses are more structured.
I have been thru 6 cd's. I find them well structured and the presentation and narration is very well done. (I teach clock repair and machining). I have a portable cd player that I place on the work bench near the machine or tools that are discussed and walk thru each item presented. It helps that I am a tool freak and have every tool on the cd. I would recommend that anyone considering purchasing a mill or lathe order this course and determine if they are ready for the plunge of purchasing the equipment required and if they would be able to imagine themselves creating work on these machines. With the methods shown on these cd's they can see what lies in store. The rewards of completing a finished piece is the essence of what these cd's can accomplish for the viewer.
For me it's all about the convenience. I tried to commit to getting a couple of videos a month but the weeks seemed to go by so quickly and before you know it, I had forgot to rent videos for many months. Using the University, I get videos automatically and don't have to remember to order them. I would like to see the University more interactive meaning that I pick the videos I would like to see kind of like picking your classes once you pick your major. Other than that, I think it's great!
As a beginner machinist, with only a very experienced friend to guide me, I have found the Lathe and Milling Machine University invaluable. It covered the essential practices clearly and succinctly, and helped me on my way to my first steam engine project.
I am an "student " of LMMU. I have a routine I use when the new cd's arrive. I watch them all and then go to my shop and gather all the items covered in the presentations. With a portable cd player by the appropriate machine I cue up a chapter and follow it thru with the actual items on the video at hand. Some of it is general review , but it helps to hone your skills by covering all of the details in the methodical presentations. By being interactive with the video, one can learn faster if they are new to the trade. If you have been in the trade for years it is a great review.
