Q: How many DVDs do I get at a time?
A: Up to three per month.

Q: Can you clarify how the "three DVDs out-at-a-time, limit three per month" plan works?
A: Let's say you sign up on the 10th of the month. Your month then runs from the 10th of each month till the 10th of the next month. We'll make sure that you always have three new DVDs to watch in your home. We do it by sending out up to three DVDs during each month.
So, you sign up on the 10th. We mail you three DVDs immediately. If you return one of them a week later, we accept the return, but since we've mailed you three new DVDs this month, we wait until the next month. As soon as the 10th of the next month rolls around, we send you one DVD, so now you've again got 3 DVDs in your home. A week after that, you return two more dvds. We immediately replace them, so that you again have three dvds.
Q: Will my university subscription send me DVDs that I already ordered as a SmartFlix customer?
A: No! We track what you've already rented, and we won't send out duplicates.
Q: What order do I get the DVDs in?
A: We can't promise that you'll get the dvds in exactly the order listed below, but we do absolutely promise that we always send items out in an order that makes sense: you'll never get disk 2 in a set before disk 1. More generally, we use customer feedback to structure the universities in an order that makes sense - basic stuff first, then more advanced topics.

I have been a member of oil painting university for a few months now and I have been very happy with the videos that I have received. I have learned so much from some of the teaching videos, the next best thing would to be in the actual classroom. Being able to keep the video's for a longer period and not feel like your being rushed to watch, paint and get the video back on time is another plus. Very happy with SmartFlix.
I am involved in the oil painting university. I am truly enjoying it. The videos are great - in quality and variety. Even if you feel you "know" a certain topic, you can always pick up good ideas and tips when watching the artist doing the video. It also keeps my desire to paint high. One thing I really appreciate is that the program allows you to skip videos you have seen, already own or have no interest in - this saves me time and money. Yeah.
In my hometown we have access to teaching through Bemis Art School, but I find I prefer the videos to taking a live class. No interuptions, no hauling materials and you can review and review anything of particular interest to you.
I would recommend Smartfix's "university" programs to anyone.

Finding Smartflix was a real blessing. To be able to order DVDs on the different Oil Painting arts, and see how they paint, is not only educational but very affordable. If you are into oil painting and can't afford an instructor, SmartFlix is the next best thing.
I have been very pleased with the University program overall. I have been painting for about 6 years and have realized how valuable it is to get instructions and helpful hints from a variety of artists, rather than learning from just a few. I have been learning many new techniques from these videos and have been inspired to try new techniques. I get excited about receiving the three videos each month and highly recommend this program to anyone interested in oil painting.
What I like about the Oil Painting University is the variety of dvds available. Each dvd has a unique perspective on how to paint. I try each style and use what is comfortable for me. In the few short months that I have been receiving the dvds the understanding of tonal values and other skills have improved.
I have been subcribed to oil painting university for several months now and I recomend it to any one who wants to learn from top artists. This is a great chance to review videos and techniques as well as to decide with which artists you want to take classes.The price is great for the time they let you have the DVDS. I've been enrolled in Oil Painting University for several months now and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It's so much fun getting the new shipment each month and watching these very talented artists paint so beautifully. It seems each one has developed their own techniques and style which gives me a great variety of things to try for myself. As a hobbyist, I feel I've learned so much!

I really love the Oil Painting University. It is less than you would spend if you rented three videos individually, and you get to keep them much longer. It gives you time to really study each video before returning. Some of the things you may know, but you can always - always - pick up something new from each video. Plus, if you already have seen or own certain videos...or if there's a topic you just aren't interested in you can opt out of receiving those. GREAT!
I've been enrolled in the "oil painting university" for about 4-5 months now. I also just finished the Weekend with the Masters that was put on by American Artist Magazine in my home town of Colorado Springs. Except for the enjoyment of meeting the artists in person and getting to watch them work, I can honestly say I've gotten more input from the videos I get from Smartflix and for a lot less money. With the videos I get to choose what I am interested in seeing and get to watch it in the privacy of my own home, at my own rate and for as long as I want. In a group of 15-30 people you can't get that kind of focused learning experience. Additionally, with the video you get to literally peer over the shoulder of the artist, in person they don't always like that! And, standing 5-10 feet from the work you really can't see what you can from the well done videos offered by Smartflix.
I have been pleasantly surprised with the quality of materials offered in oil painting university. So far, the DVD's have been well worth the cost. I enjoy having smartflix select and mail the packages to me without me having to search the data base. Since I am an intermediate painter, I need constant presentation of the basics. Without Painting University, I would not be conscientious enough to order instructional videos on a regular basis. AS long as the quality stays this high, I will continue my subscription.
This is a great idea for anyone who wants to learn more about painting and has little time to spare looking over selections of videos trying to determine which one is the right one. This way they simply come. I know I can learn something from everyone of them and over time I will have got a broader education perhaps learning something from a video I would not have chosen myself. I highly recommend this course and I'm in it for the long haul.

I have enjoyed my enrollment. The dvd's are better than I expected. While I am not a fan of all the presenters, I learn something from each one. I have been impressed with how efficiently the dvd's arrive and are returned. I like not having a specific time to return them given the recent holidays. I will continue with my subscription so long as the cost and quality remain the same.
This is really an excellent place to view all the major important videos available for painting instruction. I have enjoyed all of them. Even though I don't paint still lifes myself, it has been good for me to watch those too and observe the methods that various teachers use. The most important for me have been the portraits as well as the technique videos. Lilliedahl's are all excellent. I'm looking forward to seeing all the remaining lessons. Thank you SmartFlix for making these available!
This is my second month in the Oil Painting University. I am a representational painter and I like the idea that with the University I can constantly explore the methods of other artists without the expense of purchasing tapes and DVDs. Also it is impossible to learn from such a wide variety of teachers while attending art school.
I found that enrolling in oil painting University is a very enjoyable and relaxing way to learn how to paint in oil at your own home. Some of them are very educational but some might not be up to viewers' standard. It will be even better if customers can choose the area they want to concentrate each month.
So far, I absolutely love Oil Painting University. The DVDs have been top -notch varied, and incredibly instructive. It's so helpful to be able to see the artist mix paints on the palette close-up, as well as paint the canvas-something you can't usually do in a "live" workshop. I personally dislike buying these instructional videos since I prefer to view them only once or twice, and the cost of purchasing many quickly becomes prohibitive. I think OPU is a fabulous bargain. Keep up the excellent work please!!!!!
The instructors of the Oil Painting University are, on the whole, excellent. I also like the fact that we can hold onto the CDs until we are ready to give them up. I'm very happy with the program.
I was enrolled for only a month or two, but my short experience was very good. I stopped because the DVD's came too often and I didn't have time to watch them in the time allotted. When I watched the DVDs I viewed each one at least twice: first to get an overview of the whole lesson; Then I'd watch it again, stopping to copy notes after each point. I have the list of all the great DVD's in the library and I plan to rent the ones I want to see when I get the chance.Anyway, I got a great deal of good from the instruction, especially Johnnie Liliedahl's DVD. Thanks for offering this program!

I enrolled in SmartFlix University to keep me motivated to continue learning - especially in oil painting! Renting DVDs let me learn in my home without any rush.
