I would recommend Twilight in Tibet to all levels of artists. Learn brush strokes, placement of subject and composition.

Like I said about the first DVD the same goes here. He shows the processes he goes through in his thoughts and moves. True he does not linger on colors that he chooses but he gives the values and temperature of the colors and where they go on this painting Twilight in Tibet. Very informative.

The painting in the DVD that Huihan Liu signed as finished is about 80% complete as compared to that pictured on the DVD cover. Much of the rendering of the rider's face and clothing is left out to say nothing of the saddle blanket on the horse. The cover says they spent 7 days in his studio, and the DVD is portioned in days giving one the impression that there are 7 days worth shown. However, it ends on day 4. At the rate he was going he needed 3 more days worth to bring the painting to its advertised state. DVDs by Richard Scmid, Kevin MacPherson, and Scott Christensen are less expensive, feature highly paid professional painters, clearer more complete instructions, and their demonstration paintings are as advertised.

I disagree with James P. I have been painting for some 35 years now and learned a lot from this video. He shows all the stages from conception, reference photos, b & w charcoal sketch, color comps and the final painting. It was like watching a living version of Andrew Loomis's book "Creative Illustration". All of these painting videos can seem slow at times, because you are watching paint mixing ad infinitum etc., but if you hang in there, the gems of painting wisdom are to be found.

Very useful and informative about how Huihan paints, watching him do it, and he is a wonderful artist, but didn't get too much out of spoken part (hard to understand and monotone delivery).
