Quang Ho's expertise comes in a friendly package. He is witty, intelligent, and a pleasure to watch. From the initial wash to the finishing touches, viewers cannot help but be captivated by his seemingly effortless execution. The mysteries are explained, however. Throughout, he shares insights on conceptualizing the painting, selecting where to place hard edges, establishing anchor points and many more valuable observations. Excellent video production qualities that include true-to-life colors, detailed close-ups, multiple-camera view, and an intermittent view of the subject, shown side-side with artist's rendering in progress.

He is incredible! A wonderful instructor as well as artist. This is a must for all artists who are painting portraits.....or any subject.
Quang Ho is not only a great painter but also very smart with wonderful personality gentleman. What a pleasure to watch him painting an listen to him. Thank you Quang for this great demonstration. -Andrzej
Excellent video, one of the best i have seen. Quang Ho is a natural teacher, very humble, and a congenial presence. He paints quickly and authoritatively, and the resulting portrait in this demo is beautifully done.
Maybe he's not the best instructor for me. There's a lot of watching and not much explaining after the basic instruction (the usual: paints, brushes, form, lighting, composition, etc.) and sound quality was a little halting. I also found his color use to be a little muddy.
But I loved to watch the form of his subject come alive on the painting. Just a single brushstroke and the hands have depth, the face character. I just don't know how to duplicate it and that's the instruction I was expecting.
Quang Ho is much more verbal than most artists in the videos I have seen. Yes, I would highly recommend this vid to any serious painter.
EXCELLENT!! I was very curious to see Quang's actual painting style and to hear how he would teach, having read a featured article in a major art magazine recently. The article about his approach to teaching "structure" and his very loose beginning of a painting appealed to me in the article. Also his different approach in not being concerned about "warm" and "cool" as one lays down color. All of what I read in that article ALMOST caused me to buy the DVD from his site. Now that I have seen the video I MUST BUY IT....Loved it and found his personal style of "demo-ing" and teaching very plesant and appealing. I would love to take a workwhop with him someday...and I plan to buy all three of his DVD's!
I loved this DVD. Quang is a master painter and did not drive me crazy by constantly telling the model to move this way and that way. He evidentally set his mark and if she was not at the exact spot it did not bother him. He was not too verbose, so I could enjoy watching his brushstrokes and not be distracted with constant chattering. I watched it three times and will probably rent it again.
