3 hours of art instruction - Jim paints a 20" x 30" from a photo of this beautiful snow scene. After the filming of this video, Jim used this painting to do a 30" x 48" of the same scene, which later won the People's Choice Award and an Award of Merit from the Western Rendezvous of Art in Helena, Montana in August, 2006.

Good landscape painting video. Talks about painting from reference photos and prior work.
Enjoyed this video very much, and found it helpful for the plein air painter. Looking forward to more from Jim Wilcox.
Jim uses a few reference photos and combines them into one painting. The video jumps back and forth from him painting to a downward look on his palette. I found his presentation dry, but informative, occasionally amusing. This is for someone who already knows the basics of oil painting, not a beginning lesson in oils.
This video show the process of painting a picture, from the beginning to the end. It tells about all the different concerns that you have when you are painting. Also shows when you don't like something that it is OK to go back and redo. It might seem a little long but it held my interest. A good one to watch if you are still learning.
You really get to know Jim Wilcox while watching his videos, and......he's just like this in real life. Funny, full of information, and willing to share. I hope he does a lot more.
You can't go wrong with Jim Wilcox. Next to Richard Schmid, Jim is the best oil painting instructor I've encountered.
I really enjoyed this video and today I'm going to rent his other DVD here on Smartflix.
Good information. I enjoyed the video however, the long pauses were distracting. The first time the cartoon book was introduced was ok, but the second time he went over the same ground I became impatient. I would recommend the video for the landscape information, I just sent for one of the books he recommended on composition.
