As with all other programs in the "In the Studio With..." series, you are gifted with the rare opportunity to see a master artist at work on a major, gallery-bound piece and have the privilege of seeing virtually every brushstroke required to bring this painting from bare canvas to finished masterpiece. Watts is a verbal, energetic instructor who will talk you though every phase of the painting's development.

Jeffrey Watts is a very good artist but his "style" is so individualistic that I could not relate to his work. There are ways to painting a portrait a lot simpler this this video.
As far as my recommendation...I personally didn't get a thing out of the video, but it was of interest just to see "another approach to painting."
This is not what I would consider a training video, it is more for the accomplished artist looking for a way to loosen up.
I have a completely different review than the previous one. I was so enthralled with Watts DVD & teaching style and after watching this DVD my work grew leaps. I tried working on a more textured canvas and loved the results but in addition to that - I loved that he talked to the viewer with respect and gave lots of information that he did not have to add in order for this to be an incredible teaching experience. I found his approach exciting and this dvd is one of the few that I watched a second time. I rate this AAA and definitely worth watching! After watching this, I went to his website and just absorbed much of his work and think I am a better artist now than before this DVD experience. I hope he makes many more in the future- I will watch them all!

I like this artist's work very much, but he certainly has his own unique approach to painting. This DVD was not helpful to me, but I give it two stars just because it proves that there are MANY ways to paint.
Be prepared for the artist to talk constantly throughout the process.
WHAT A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE TO BE UNDER THE INSTRUCTIONS OF JEFF WATTS I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE SECOND ONE THANK YOU BEA DOONE-MERENA
i just loved it . i will be saving my money to buy this if i can thank you bea doone-merena
Jeffrey Watts is a great artist and a great teacher. This is the best video I ever rented from SmartFlix. Outstanding. So informative, so enjoyable. The real peace of art. This is the one. Highly recommended. Jeffrey V.
This was a good instructional DVD by an outstanding painter. He explains things very well and teaches the fundamentals of good painting. I have or have read evry book he recommends and agree with his list. The only problem i see is his painting style is so unique, I doubt others will learn to paint like hime. However, elements of his process might be incorporated into one's own work.
Such as talented and sharing young man. 7 hrs is long but he gave so much information it was a great learning experience.
FIVE STARS!! Two Thumbs Up!! I can't say enough good things about this video. Mr. Watts has a very unique style of painting that may not appeal to everyone. However, his ability to talk about the process of being an artist is amazing. This video is just dripping with great comments, tips, observations, recommendations, etc. He even takes time show us some of the books from his library!
I liked the finished/partially finished paintings you see around and about in the video, but did not really enjoy the dvd as it was very long and a portrait (which is not one of my main interests) and his style is just not my taste. I'm sure there are lots of people who would like it.
This was a fabulous learning experience.
