Airbrush Basics: Step By Step Instructions

Learn how to create special effects with traditional stencils and unconventional masking tools and edges. Using a limited color pallet and 4-overlay theorem style (or bridgeless) stencil, Sheri shows you how to get the most out of each color, spraying in delicate layers to create many different hues for a striking and balanced composition. Use these basic techniques to create beautiful airbrushed images on any surface.

Airbrush Niche

Sheri Hoegar, aka The Mad Stencilist, shows you tips and tricks from her years of experience with airbrush, and covers maintenance and cleaning of the airbrush and it's related equipment so you know what you will need to set up you studio for success. In this project, you will learn a simple but effective marbling technique and how to then use the airbrush to give the marbled shelf volume. Several masking techniques will be presented, such as stacking stencils, using the drop-out mask and cutting friskets for overlapping areas. Dimensional airbrushed under-painting is the key to achieving the aged look of this composition, combined with the soft color tinting and freehand cast shadows. Use this technique for rendering beautiful borders, murals, even figures!
