Glass how-to video: Beadmaking with Kate Fowle Meleney by Kate Fowle Meleney 5_bulb Review this video!

Lampworked Beadmaking: An Introduction

1½ hours of instruction about the tools and methods used to produce Venetian inspired wound glass beads. Decorative detail including dots, feathered stripes, foil and latticino are carefully demonstrated and meticulously captured on film with great close-up shots.

(about 90 minutes)

Intermediate Beadmaking: The Bells and Whistles

1¼ hours of demonstrations showing decorative techniques that will help make your beads look more complex and interesting. Kate shows you how to pull your own aventurine rods and stringers, how to make and apply several fancy encased twisted canes, and the many ways that you can combine Thompson Enamels with Efffetre (Moretti) glass.

(about 75 minutes)

Intermediate Beadmaking: Pattern Cane From Optic Molds

1¼ hours of demonstrations showing how to use several of the optic molds that are available to the beadmaker. Kate uses the star, heart and several of the saw tooth molds to produce cane, then shows two different ways to apply them to your beads. A fantasy bead is made from start to finish, clearly showing how to encase a surface that has canes protruding from it. And a bead with pattern cane applied directly to the surface, with no casing, is demonstrated as well.

(about 75 minutes)

Very good DVD for the beginner. I've been beadmaking for about a year and a half and was familiar with most items, but it's always nice to watch and see the many different ways artists do the same things. I'm always upset when I see Kate Fowle's name anyway -- she used to be in the DC area at Glen Echo, not 1/2 hour from my house...why didn't I get into lampworking before she moved away! I would recommend this video to all beginners or those just looking to hone their skills.

Oh, shoot - I may have reversed my comments on Kate's DVDs. I rented two at the same time. If this is the beginner one, please see my comments on her other video. If this is the enamel one, here are my comments -- if it's not, see the other comments, LOL...yes, I am blond! This is a great introduction into enamels, stringer control and color options. This was a very interesting video and definitely sparked my muse. Kate -- can't wait for some newer stuff from you! I would recommend this DVD.

Excellent beginner to intermediate instructional dvd. I found a number of useful tips and techniques and I have studied beadmaking for awhile. I thought her demonstration of dots was excellent. A few of the beads looked a bit dated but it is over 10 years old. However, I highly recommend this clear and concise beadmaking dvd.
