The History of Science: 1700-1900

...with Frederick Gregory

Science: History & Philosophy how-to video: The History of Science: 1700-1900 by Frederick Gregory Review this video!

In order to facilitate learning and help the course run as smoothly and sequentially as possible, Dr. Frederick Gregory has divided the subject matter into 6 distinct sections:
* Inquiries into the history of the cosmos
* Investigations into the realm of living things
* The largely successful attempt to break away from occult explanations of chemical phenomena
* The contrasting persistence of occult appeals in explaining natural phenomena
* The proliferation of the number and kind of physical forces discovered and investigated, thereby opening up broad vistas for the future
* The recurring theme of the relationship of God to nature.

Dr. Gregory will touch on several commonly studied scientific disciplines we study today, such as chemistry, biology, physics, astronomy, paleontology, etc. He will teach the viewer about famous experiments and those scientists that conducted them. Dr. Gregory gracefully bounces between happenings that occurred within 200 years, giving you a broad spectrum of the history of science while astounding you with how much progress can be made in the span of less than 3 lifetimes.

After watching this series, you'll understand:
* What caused Darwin to delay publishing his own groundbreaking findings
* How a poet was involved in coining the term, "scientist"
* How the self-educated daughter of a British naval officer became a major scientific authority in Victorian Britain.
