I have been repairing antique radios for over 25 years. I have many repair books & have also learned through trial and mistakes. I only wish I had watched this video 25 years ago. It would have saved me alot time & wondering what do I to. The trouble shooting procedure steps is excellent & the technical level easy to understand for someone who has never attempted old radio repair. I wanted to see his cabinet finishing tips and I liked the presentation so much I just rented video #4 in this series. Many of the internet links & Jeff shows at the end of the video are still on line. I have used the sites for years & recommend checking them out. Watch this video & you will be able to confidently repair most old radios if you follow Jeff's steps.
Good reference for refinishing 1920's and 1930's furniture (not just radio cabinets). Unfortunately does not cover one item I wanted to know, how to deal with decals on period radios. but does cover veneer repair, finish removal and re-application, repair of delaminated plywood.
Good video, could have been better but I would recommend it anyway.
I rented videos 1 - 3 of Antique Radio Restoration and found them to be quite good, well-crafted tutorials. The instructor takes his time and does an excellent job of explaining his steps. These are interesting videos, not boring like others I've watched. Not only for old time radio enthusiasts, these videos are also a lesson on how to properly DO an instructional video. Definitely recommended.
It was a great introduction into Antique Radio Repair and covered pretty much all steps in trouble-shooting and repairing an old Tube Radio. Very informative!
He's very knowledgeable with Tube Theory and the practical trouble-shooting skills that it takes to repair older tube-type radios. He's a very good speaker and the down-to-earth techniques that he uses is invaluable to anyone who wants to be able to trouble-shoot and repair these great old radios. I don't know anywhere else you could find this great instruction on old technology like this, so I was very happy to have found Bret's series on old Radio Repair!
Covers all the basics of selecting and restoring old (tube type) radios. Also includes some basic theory. I found the section on renewing old finishes particularly interesting. There are several other volumes in the series that cover specific restoration topics in much greater detail.
If you have an old radio you would like to evaluate and, perhaps, get working again, this video is for you.
