What a mixed review I feel I need to give.
80% of this video is material covered by other more detailed videos.
The 20% that is box specific is very very good. I really was taken by the design and look of the completed boxes.
If you have seen "how to make a finger joint jig" and "make a cross cut sled", this will be nothing new.
On the other hand, leather hinges and wooden hinges were quite interesting.
I do fault Taunton press for cranking out rehashes of much the same material.
Excellent. Doug Stowe is a craftsman! He shows many shortcuts and ways to increase efficiency and accuracy. Completing at lease 5 different boxes right before your eyes,he makes it look easy.
i haven't seen any of his other videos, but i really love this one. it is extremely informative and idea generating. personally I've watched it repeatedly and am still enjoying it. I've been making boxes for years and i like his ideas and presentation.
I learned a lot from this video and would highly recommend it.
I like everything about it. Instructor Doug Stowe was very good at teaching. The DVD was well organized. The photography allowed a good visual. The methods used were simple and sound. No fancy equipment required.
I would very much like to see additional Box Making DVDs showing more and also advanced techniques.
I've been a wood turner for several years and have never seen the need for a table saw, until I saw this video and now own a table saw so I can make some of these boxes.
