With simple lines and a rustic design that emphasizes its traditional functionality, this piece will blend in well with any country decor. Based on an authentic dry sink from Arlington House, once home to Robert E. Lee, this historic piece was found among many everyday objects that were used by the 63 slaves on the estate. Norm builds this version out of recycled pine and lines it with brilliant copper. Includes measured shop drawings. Measures 48"L x 21"W x 37"H
This piece is modeled after the handsome Painted Cupboard at the Winterthur Museum in Delaware, a piece about which little is known. Inspired by the unique arched top door and “pinched cornice that towers above the case, Norm reproduces the same dimensions and style in his own shop, even matching the green/blue exterior paint and the rich wine-red of the interior. With a clean, timeless design and a small footprint, this piece would be at home in almost any room. Includes measured shop drawings. Measures 11"D x 31"W x 88"H.
An inspiring example of classic 19th century design, this Bowfront Chest features curved drawer faces with dovetail joinery and challenging French feet. Originally built by Alden Spooner in 1807, the model for this chest was being stored out of public view in Old Sturbridge Village, a recreation of an 1830s New England Village. Norm, who is a trustee of the museum, asked the curators to put the chest on display in one of the Village’s historic homes to inspire his New Yankee viewers. The finished chest will serve as an inspiration to all. Includes measured shop drawings. Measures 40"L x 22"W x 36"H.
