Decorating & Upholstery how-to video: Basic Principles of Slipcovering by John French 5_bulb Review this video!

Basic Principles of Slipcovering: 1A

* Beginning level where we learn the absolute basics of slipcovering. Once we learn the foundation, we can build additional skills. * We use a pattern method of instruction which allows the beginner the ability to correct mistakes. Students can also reuse their pattern to make additional slipcovers out of different fabric. * Designed especially to be made on HOME SEWING MACHINES. Because the finished slipcover product from part 1 does not include welt cord, pleats, or lining, only two layers of fabric will be sewn together allowing the use of home machines. * Demonstration is given on two different pieces and styles of furniture. A sofa and a club chair. Neither one is more difficult than the other, there is just more fabric between the arms of a sofa. * Only BASIC sewing skills are required * Select an easy piece of furniture to use for your first project * Final result is a professional looking custom slipcover…. made easy! * Includes Cushion Construction

Basic Principles of Slipcovering: Level 2

Build on the skills you have acquired from my Basic Principles Level I course! * This course takes the exact same slipcover pattern from level 1 and demonstrates how to add welt cord to the seams, a tailored skirt and a hidden zipper in the back corner. The result is a totally professional slipcover which will give you immense satisfaction - keeping in mind the entire time that our goal is to keep this EASY! * Upon completion of this course, the student will definitely be at an intermediate level and with practice, will be ready to start a home-based business. * The skills taught in this course are transferable to any slipcover project where welt cord, a tailored skirt and hidden zipper are desired. * Basic Principles of Slipcovering Part I is a prerequisite.

I loved all the great information - thorough, well-explained and easy to follow. I think I will need to purchase the set before attempting to recover my sofa, however.

Thanks! This is a great service!

This was a thorough, clear, easy to grasp tutorial on making slipcovers. I learned a lot and look forward to using this technique. I highly recommend this video, as well as part two and the next level. The process and the pitfalls were clearly explained and demonstrated.
