Engines how-to video: Interactive How To Engine Rebuild: Basic Engine Building by BoxWrench Media 5_bulb Review this video!

'Basic Engine Building' is like no other instructional video ever created. This DVD will teach any enthusiast or mechanic of any skill level how to rebuild almost any type of engine by going through every step of the rebuild process. Every engine overhauling tool, theory, method and procedure related to basic engine building and engine function is covered in detail. This video can be used to learn how to work on almost any type of internal combustion engine including V8, V6, Straight 8, in-line 6 and even 4 cylinder engines. This DVD follows the same 8 section formula as the previously available '8-Point Rebuild' to explain a complete teardown and rebuild of an engine. An extra hour of video footage was added that puts the total run time to over 3 1/2 hours (not including the hours you could spend learning in the Reference Menus). There are dozens more computer animations and graphical explanations of complex engine building techniques. A fully redesigned graphic interface and completely re-written and narrated by three different personalities. This simply is the best automotive instructional video ever produced! You'll be shown every tool and how to use them. You'll be taken through every process necessary to complete an engine rebuild. Nothing is left unexplained. With the help of this DVD, you can complete an entire rebuild or use it for a lifetime of reference to automotive building and repair.

Very well produced and detailed rebuild of a Chevrolet V-8 engine.

Process oriented, logical workflow is explained.

Great footage of the type of work you can do yourself at-home and the stages of work jobbed out to the machine shop.

Newbie or advanced will learn from this title.

There was a tremendous amount of information packed into this video - far more than I was expecting. Incredible animation, leisurely photographed assembly and disassembly instructions, and a great menu system made this an amazing view. A highlight is a marine engine that when the oil drain plug was removed exuded a goop that looked like taffy! All in all a highly recommended video.

Very detailed. Good DVD production quailty, with a ton of features to navigate through. Made me decide to send my engine out to be remanufactured instead of trying to do it myself!

Great! I watch it several times. I realize taking the breaken down parts of the engine to a machine shop for cleaning and machining could save me time and perhaps money, but I'm very much interested during the job myself, at least for the first time just to see how its done and the do-it-yourself hand tools, just to get the feel of the amount of work and precision involve. I did some homework, and realize rebuilding a engin (cleaning and machineing)is not a rush job or a hour or two event, it would take several days and depending on time available.

Absolutely amazing, among the best I've seen in terms of cars, not to mention engines.

Great Video! A step by step walkthrough packed with useful advice. I only wish they spent less time detailing the process in the machine shop.

No stone left unturned. It covered everything in great detail. It was so full of valuable information that I ended up buying a copy of my own. Certainly worth renting if you've thought that you'd like to do an engine rebuild yourself. Highly recommended.

This is a well thought out and organized presentation on generic engine rebuilding. I thought the tool and supplies information was a more like a plug for specific vendors.

If you work on your own cars, this video is just what you need to complete a successful engine rebuild. It takes you thru pulling an engine (with or without transmission), disassembly, what parts to replace, taking parts to a machine shop, assembly, and starting the engine up for the first time. The dvd contains lots of useful tips along the way like using the correct lubes and adhesives, familiarization with special tools and acceptable alternatives, and work arounds for problems that might arise during a rebuild. The dvd was very well thought out and produced, too. After watching this, I would feel much more comfortable rebuilding my own engine rather than picking up an engine exchange from some place and not knowing exactly what went into the rebuild. Highly recommended.

Good DVD. A bit dated, but very useful for learning engine rebuilding in general

Goodness, where to start.

Thorough. Amazing. Clear.

From opening the hood to finally turning the key, this video does it all.

Almost bolt for bolt.

I also really enjoyed the trip to the machine shop where they did all kinds of grinding and fitting on the block.

This is, IMHO, how a how-to video should be. Broken into tons of chapters and navigates like a webpage.

Even if you don't wanna rebuild an engine, it teaches so much that its a great learning experience for any how-to'r.

Very informative video, especially for the beginner. Even though there were some shameless plugs for tools, etc...the items offered will definitely help the first time engine builder stay organized and keep everything in place. The DVD format was great with extra tabs loaded with info...would recommend.

Good video production but narration sounds immature and unprofessional. Full of advertisement time for the obvious sponsors. Good information for the complete novice.

This is an extremely well produced instructional video! OK, the cheesy "space music" soundtrack doesn't help, but it is kept at a low enough volume not to distract either. Every attempt is made to keep the pace such that the processes are easily followed. The menu system makes it very easy to resume to or review specific areas. I would recommend it to anyone interested in understanding the process more clearly than seen on the television shows that cover rebuilding in much less detail.

Best video so far on SmartFlix! Ordered this video when I thought I might have a "minor" problem with the Blazer. Ended up having to pull the engine and do a full rebuild. This video was essential to the process. It saved me on several small but vital things my manual overlooked. Very well presented and professionally done.

This video is a Must See if you are even thinking about rebuilding an engine. If you want to know what is in an engine and how everything is connected and how an engine works, you must rent this video. I can't say enough great things about this video. I feel confident my about first engine rebuild project I will be starting. Anyone with basic knowledge of tools for the mechanic will be able to follow along easily. Lots of information in this excellent video. I believe I will be purchasing this video to further my knowledge of engine rebuilding.

This video was great. I am a complete engine novice, and I really learned a lot from this video. It was a complete tear down and rebuild of engines. It also covered having the block sent to the machine shop, and describes adjusting bearing size and parts for reassembly. It seems like they covered everything. The Dvd was great, with nice interactive features. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to do a rebuild on their own, or someone just looking to learn more about engines.

This is the most well produced educational DVD I have ever seen. I am not talking about the excellent content of the topic. I simply mean the way it was produced. The animation, the glossary, the tool id section, all of it was just great. The white background kept me focused on the subject matter. I can’t say enough. I look forward to seeing more DVD’s produced by Boxwrench. I really enjoyed this DVD and I never got sleepy. Most educational DVD’s make me sleepy.

I was blown away at the production quality of the video and the interactive tools available. It was very informative and I would highly recommend it to anyone that is thinking about rebuilding an engine. At minimum, it helps educate someone enough to be able to ask intelligent questions when looking for a shop to do the entire rebuild for them or just when farming out the specific tasks of the rebuild. A+
