Dutch Masters: The Age of Rembrandt

...with Professor William Kloss

Art how-to video: Dutch Masters: The Age of Rembrandt by Professor William Kloss Review this video!

In this magnificent series that dramatically portrays Holland's most skilled and influential artists of the 17th century, you will explore the talents and achievements of modern history. You will learn all about the works of the following artists who came from this tiny European country: Vermeer, Frans Hals, Jan Steen, Pieter de Hooch, Rembrandt, Jan van de Cappelle, Meindert Hobbema, Jacob van Ruisdael, Pieter Saenredam, Gerard ter Borch, Hendrick Terbrugghen.

Dutch artists are often considered “realists because of their visually descriptive and lifelike techniques. This video, however, explores the possibility that these artists were infact clambering towards creating a sort of “parallel reality - that they were trying to communicate something darker and deeper than reality through their work, perhaps in reference to religion or morality. This course ends with 7 lectures specifically focused on Rembrandt, possibly the most influential Dutch artist of all time. Enjoy the exploration of art history in Holland and learning about the intriguing and often twisted minds of these great masters who have provided such a distinct and breathtaking example in fine arts.
