Throwing with Slabs and Coils

...with Bonnie Staffel

Pottery how-to video: Throwing with Slabs and Coils by Bonnie Staffel 5_bulb Review this video!

This DVD shows Bonnie's techniques of throwing on the potter's wheel using slabs and coils made by hand or mechanical methods. Slabs can be made into forms such as plates, platters, pie pans, quiche pans, etc. with manipulations on the wheel, and other forms by adding coils for larger platters.

Extruded coils can be thrown to make walls for loaf and lasagna pans, free-formed vessels, oval pots, then put together with the slab bottoms. Coils can also be made into large bowls and planters.

Excellent ideas. She really has found a way to allow herself to continue to produce. I will incorporate her techniques into my beginning classes!

Excellent! Great tips for anyone having difficulty handling large amounts of clay. Bonnie's technique gives me a new way of looking at clay. I could have used this when I had trouble with tennis elbow. I highly recommend.
