All three of Lynton McKenzie's videos are terrific! Get an opportunity to learn how this master does it himself. In his beginning video he covers tool sharpening - an extremely important area that has received very little treatment from other sources. The audio is a little weak in places and the sources for materials such as his vise appear to no longer exist, but this in no way detracts from his presentation or the materials covered. I highly recommend these videos.
This DVD is a "must" view for the beginner. It is clear, down to earth and explaines the process of sharpening, & polishing the graver/chisel. It does presents the authors unique talent of making it look simple and easy to understand which gives the viewer the confidence to tackle the engraving process.
I have watched the intermediate engraving DVD and find that it also is presented very well as was the "Beginner DVD". I recommend this DVD to others with an intrest to further develop their hand engraving skills.
This is a great series for someone that is intested in engraving. It takes you through the basics with enough information to build the confidence needed to succeed!! Time well spent!!
Great beginners video. Not for design and execution, but for tools, sharpening and getting started. This DVD is fantastic.
Good information on sharpening gravers and basic work. Lynton's setup is much more sophisticated than the casual engraver would be interested in purchasing.
Mckenzie was a great engraver a very straight forward approach anyone can understand plus he doesn't / didn't use power like most of todays engravers. 2 thumbs up.
I fell asleep every time I watched it.Slow, long and boring.I never finished it.
When you want to learn engraving on your own, you can get Meek's book. It is ok, but doesn't tell you HOW to engrave, at least not clearly. Watching this video fills that void, it's excellent. But neither the video or the book really can stand on their own as a "course" on beginning engraving.
Well done. now 20-year-old production but this trio of gun engraving special educational videos contain classic information, well presented.
Great technical DVD, full of info from one of the greatest engravers
Not for entertainment purposes, but Very Informative.
This was an excellent video. Finally an engraving video that actually demonstrates engraving.
These are instructional videos of a technical nature. Don't expect a lively plot line. With that said, all three of the videos are very complete and informative.
The video was just what I needed to get a real start in practicing engraving. The most important thing that you need to know to get started is how to sharpen your engravers correctly. This video makes it clear. The video quality is a little so/so, but it doesn't really distract from Lynton McKenzie's to-the-point teaching method. Clear, straight forward, and gets the job done getting you started.
