Steve Kaufman does an excellent job of teaching guitar. He explains many of his "secrets" and tricks that he used when he was learning. He goes over the material a number of times to help make it "sink in" but not so often that it becomes redundant and boring. I learned a lot from this DVD, and I highly recommend it.
I loved it! I want to learn to play as good as Steve.
Steve does a great job explaining a method to become comfortable play in many different keys and working up the neck as well. I have been flatpicking for 15years and this has helped me start a move to the next level of picking.
Great DVD. Steve opened up new ways to play teaching the caged system.
As an instructor Steve is great ... as an instructional DVD that teaches you how to improvise this DVD is not that great.
Basically Steve's advice is pretty simple ... "... learn 100+ fiddle tunes in 5 keys and use what you learned to figure out other tunes ... oh yeah .. and PRACTICE every day as long as the sun is shining ..."
Yeah that would eventually get you there I suppose .. but if you are looking for 'secrets or tricks or good ways to remember licks ... ' ... not on this DVD.
Bottom line ... learn a LOT of fiddle tunes in the C A G E D keys and practice until you don't have to think about them to play them ...
Was just ok. I was expecting something different I guess. Would be helpful if your descriptions were more detailed.
Great lesson! Steve Kaufman knows how to teach. It took a couple of times watching for me to get it all and understand his methods on certain things. Definitely worth buying for extended weeks of learning (which he recommends) or rent here before you buy like I did. Thanks, SmartFlix. Don't know what I would have done without you!
Perfect packaging and the DVD itself was in great condition with minimal scratches. No skips in the movie, though; everything played perfect. Came with tab book which made all the difference!
There's a lot more in this video than you can learn in one week. Each section could be a good lesson, to practice for a week, then move on to the next one. Just one nit -- I wish he'd included Blackberry Blossom on his list of fiddle tunes.
