How-To Video: Painting Hands by John Howard Sanden 4_bulb Review this video!

Next to the head itself, nothing is more important to the success of a portrait than the painting of hands. This helpful video stresses careful observation... how to simplify... understanding the light and shade... stressing the individual character of the hands... examples from professional assignments.

This DVD is a great lesson on painting hands .He starts with a drawing on graphite. Then he approaches the different planes of the hands using his system, but any one one can use its on color mixing for flesh tones. The lesson is what is important. I highly recommend. He is great!.

This was a very professional presentation and Mr Sanden gave a very good demonstration but the style of painting and the complicated color mixing technique is not my interest.

This was a very straightforward tutorial on painting hands. While the final painting didn't necessarily look like the subject's hands, John Sanden clearly explained everything along the way. He is one of my favorite artists and I am looking forward to seeing more of his videos in the near future.

Mr. Sanden is a master painter and the video very informative. However, I wish he had shown how to paint female hands as well as a child's hands. This video shows only two male hands and in some of the pictures of the model's hands the little finger of one hand appears to be amputated or deformed. The model has short, stubby fingers. Surely Mr. Sanden could have found a model with better hands. The hands in the painting looked nothing like the hands of the model. CLMcD
