I would recommend this particular DVD for someone who works closely with patterns, (as I do not). I quickly skimmed through it with the hope of learning more about doing alterations but was not to be! In a nutshell: not really my preference.
This is Nancy Zeiman's 25th year with PBS and educating the public with her show Sewing with Nancy. Nancy is a seasoned veteran on filming sewing and giving instructions in a simple manner that anyone can understand.
If you have years of sewing experience this is not the video for you, but if you are starting out or are returning to sewing after a long hibernation this is some good basic information.
The DVD shows you how to insert a centered or an invisible zipper. Invisible zippers are back in patterns this year, so I just bought a foot for my machine. It did not cover a lapped zipper.
How to attach facings to necklines and sleevless tops and keep the facing from flipping back out by stitching the facing to the seam allowance.
Also covered was an easy way to make a casing on elastic pants, insert elastic, attach the two ends of the elastic, and a trick on how to keep the elastic from turning or twisting in the casing by a technique called "stitching in the ditch." This technique is also used on the facing in the shoulder seam.
These techniques will be ones I will be using in my future sewing this summer of 2008. I feel Nancy does a wonderful job with her DVD's and books. I will renting more of her DVDs.
