The Road Bike

...with George Goehl

Misc Crafts how-to video: The Road Bike by George Goehl 4_bulb Review this video!

The video assumes that you know how to use your brazing/welding and metal working equipment. This bicycle is loaded with detail, such as brake levers, water bottle, air pump, shifters, toe clips and a derailleur. The basic design can be customized to fit your preferences and you can also use the same basic configurations to do a mountain bike. You'll need to adjust rod sizes and dimensions. In this bicycle, George uses primarily gas welding, although there is some brazing.

In case you haven't brazed for awhile or are maybe new to gas welding, he has included a short brazing refresher and a bit longer session on gas welding. As in all of his DVDs, you'll see each part of the bicycle. A step by step progression right up to the finished piece. You'll need some extra tools for this piece, George shows you how to make them. Very simple to put together tools and fixtures that will be essential for this bicycle but you'll also find them helpful in other sculptures. When you finish this bicycle you will have added to your skills which will carry over to other work that you may do in the future.

The cost of the materials for this bicycle are surprisingly minimal. Because there is so much information I have put this on two DVD's. I'd suggest watching both DVD's before starting your bicycle. You'll find some tips and things you'll want to be aware of as put this piece together.

Another good one from George. He covers the info and because the video is slightly more than can fit on one disk - he adds some more info and a section on tools to fill out the second disk. Once again, my only complaint about his DVDs is the lack of finished items shown for an overview of what can be done. They are shown but only in passing. And for full disclosure, I am a big fan of George's DVDs. When I watch one, its like bench session with an old friend.
