Very hip film for the painter who wants to really start abstract painting today. Learn the 12 design compositions, "extreme painting" section.

Very entertaining and informative. The 12 forms of abstract painting made perfect sense. I would recommend this to anyone interested in abstract painting.
Loved it. Very engaging. I've been painting for about a year & I really wanted to actually "see" a "real" artist paint. I've taken several painting classes & I'm always disappointed because I never had an instructor who demonstrated how to paint the way this video does. My only criticism is that I wish he would have said what products/brands he used. I'm really tempted to buy the DVD for my own collection.
Robert Burridge is an excellent teacher and video maker. I had a workshop with him in Vermont this summer. I highly recommend the video and suggest anyone who wants ideas about painting in a new way and still having fun and learning a lot should rent your video. What a great service you are providing artists. Thank you.
I found nothing new on this one. Did not really hold my interest so not one that I would recommend for instruction. Watching him put together a painting can be interesting but just too messy and large. Don't have the room to work the way he does.
The last chapter was awesome!!!!!!1 I intend to get out my string mop and throw my teeny brushes away!!!!!!!!!
THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE VERY BEST DVDS EVER! THE ARTIST IS QUITE A CHARACTER AND HIS PERSONALITY IS SHEER DELIGHT. He takes you through his basic checklist and his information is just excellent. Even if you have never done an abstract painting or find abstract art to be your 'thing' you will find that this DVD lays it all out and is so much fun! He completes 5 full paintings and again, is such a delight to watch in action!
One of the most informative and at the same time entertaining DVD's I have watched. I highly recommend it. Robert Burridge is an excellent teacher.
I enjoyed the presenter and his enthusiasm. After the initial explanation of basic points of an abstract, he showed the development of a painting which took most of the time of the film. I didn't take too much away from the demonstration as he was mostly moving the same paint around and the colors were not good. S.McArthur
I liked his style. His video encouraged me to work larger and looser. But he did not give any information on brushes or products he used. Like what made his paint so sloppy wet? Water or glazing medium or???? I would not buy it, but I'm glad there is Smartflix so I can enjoy it without purchase.
An interesting teacher. Has good ideas to loosen your creativity. However, not many have such a studio to practice what he preaches. Good dvd.
He was fun and his enthusiasm was inspiring. He gave you "permission" to have fun and make a big mess. I was interested in his process, how he decided one spot should be simplified, another had something he'd already seen before, etc. It's fascinating to see behind the scenes of this often difficult and seemingly inaccessible art form.
It's probably one of the most entertaining videos I've seen in a long time. He is a delight to watch and learn from. He keeps your interest the entire time and I definitely want to see his other video's. If you're a beginner painter to a more advanced, there is much to learn. I have recommended it to many of my artist friends already.
Entertaining DVD on abstract painting. Could have been longer. It will inspire me to loosen up and try new things.
It was fun to watch. It answered a lot of questions for me...how to paint large canvasses, what colors work best, etc. But most of all I learned that being free (not so tight) produces some wonderful paintings.
Nothing new, for very beginners... Did not show how he finally finished the paintings he demonstrated. Colors look unharmonious.
Really enjoyed Burridge's enthusiasm and guidance.
I enjoyed this DVD very much - I had never seen this artist before but now this makes me want to attend one of his live workshops. It was also very professionally done.
This was a complete waste of time and money. This guy is a genius in his own mind - making up things as he goes along. And the concepts he makes up are truly strange, certainly no where near accepted design standards. While some might argue innovation, nothing in this supports the innovation theory.
I think for someone wanting to explore abstract painting for the first time, this could be a helpful video, in that Burridge goes over basic compositions, using a theme and keeping your mind free. He then does quick demonstrations showing how one might develop on those factors. If you are looking more for technique or use of acrylic mediums, this is not the DVD.
