I watched this set of videos in order to learn a little more about doctrine for assault rifle. I am knowledgeable about rifle marksmanship but not the assault rifle end of it. The personalities and tactics on display here are all new to me. I found the series of tapes credible, but I really can't comment further on most specifics.

The assault rifle is a compromise between the sub-machinegun, and the battle rifle, that means that it's a close and medium range weapon. As regards the latter there was virtually no coverage. It may be that almost all use is on close range targets, and maybe that should be the emphasis, but I saw only one sequence where the targets appeared to be 50-100yds away, certainly nothing out to the ultimate range of the weapon. Most targets looked to be about 7 yards, that may be the average Iraq or police range, but in Afghanistan the targets can be way the heck out there.

In general I enjoyed Yeager's presentation skills. He communicates well, and can be quite funny. There are some odd segments where he attacks posts/postees than apparently appeared on the internet, and at times this degenerates into expletives, which I doubt will worry the average viewer. You have been warned.

The videos do teach the subject, but an equal purpose is to prepare people for attending a course at Tactical Response, that's OK too, since a lot of that info is pretty serviceable generally, but again, you have been warned.

Overall, my guess is the full series is closer to 360 minutes long, than 720.

So far of hundreds of how-to videos, this one has the best theme tune.

This is the best video I have personally seen on Battle carbine (AR/AK specific)shooting. It doesn’t cover any longer range shooting, but it is great for under 150 yard shooting. This series covers a lot of ground on everything related to the battle carbine and I was impressed.

The instructor is fun to watch , he is a funny guy he knows his stuff and is very (some times brutally)opinionated, but he backs up every opinion that he expresses with a very logical and reasonable explanation. I could have done without the multiple rants talking trash to one of his ex students (it get pretty bad a couple times) I didn’t find it very professional. That must have really pissed him off.

He curses a lot in the videos, I talk a lot like him so it didn’t bother me, I laughed a lot.

Be sure to check out the extra bonus info on each disc.

This series is strongly AR-15 oriented, while I do not own one (yet) this series was still informative. I did not learn as much from this series as I did in Fighting Pistol and you should also view that series as James refers back to it on several occasions. Also be very sure to view extras as there is a lot of good information on them (AK info, etc). Disc 2 is largely a gear guide with emphasis on equipment needed to attend a fighting rifle type training. The speaker, James, while clearly quite knowledgeable, often goes off on tangential tirades. While these may be well deserved and clearly sincere, they add little but are distracting.

All 3 DVDs were great. I like the practical information regarding the subject. Thank you.

I'm not an AR-15 afficinado, but I do own one and found the 3 DVD series informative and thought provoking.

I enjoyed his 3 DVD Fighting Pistol series as well and recommend that on also.

The only reason I gave this 4 stars rather than 5 stars is that I've nothing against which to compare it. His pistol DVDs are 5 star so this may be too.

I considered the rental fees to be a bargain given the content and compared to the cost of seeing most theater films.

I rented all three videos. The first is what I expected, basic manipulation and safety, with an intro drill or two.

Volumes 2 & 3 were a bit of a letdown for me. Good videos? I say yes, but with a few issues. I could have done with less equipment information and more drills, skills work and tactics.

James is a no BS kinda instructor, which I appreciate.

These videos I think have a few purposes. First, it seems like it was either a 3-DVD set infomercial or an introduction for his students attending his classes. Second, it was a "vent" for James to issue challenges and rebuke his critics. Funny, at times, but I didn't rent a comedy. I do however appreciate levity in classes.

I'm all about trigger time when it comes to practice and training. The videos had some great information and many key points that are fantastic points with sound tactics. But more teamwork drills, especially, would be a great addition to future videos.

All-in-all, a good rent. Not great, but good. For someone attending one of his classes, or wants a good introduction to the tactical rifle(M4/M16), rent them. For someone looking for more challenge or if you are already familiar or have had some formal training with the M4/M16 platform, look elsewhere.

I thought it was a pretty good video. It could have been better if there hadn't been so many rants about emails he has received from other people. Good camera angles on the shooting.
