Excellent tips on routine repairs and setup of violins that have been neglected. Very clear close-ups, thorough explanations of technique details and reasons for them. Easy to follow. Does not cover extensive repairs such as those requiring removal of the top plate.
Generally good, but I disagree strongly with how he fits tuning pins.
This was exactly what I was looking for. Very clear and straightforward step-by-step instructions for a basic fiddle setup.
Good general setup and maintenance video. Anything under the lid is skipped.
Very elemental. Not enough coverage of specific adjustments to enhance sound production.
Since I am a complete amateur to violin making and repair, this is an excellent introduction. Two things are lacking: how to refinish a badly abrased violin body and how to safely remove and then replace the back of the violin. Also what glues to use and what preconditioning substances will make it easier to reglue the back and how to clamp it. A DVD on bow rehairing and repair would also be helpful.
I thought the video was quite good for me, an amateur. Would have liked more info on setup; post setting for power vs. clarity . Also, taking the top off and setting patches, etc. Can't complain though-very good DVD
