This unique series, hosted by three-time winner of “Professor of the year at the University of Oklahoma, Professor J. Rufus Fears, finds almost an entirely new use for great works of literature, and covers classics written from ancient times up until the 20th century.
Professor Fears divulges not into the context or story of such works, but rather studies the underlying meaning, and themes that appear frequently, such as problems with God, Faith, and choosing between Good and Evil. He teaches us that a truly great book relates to real life in more than one way, and can be compared to real life situations based upon the views and ideas on which the book was written.
You’ll study such famed books as Othello, 1984, the Titan, Aeneid, and the Book of Job, among several others. He will explore such questions as, how far can great literature penetrate our lives? What can we learn from the masters who wrote these books? And, can literature deepen our minds and ways of thinking? Can they establish more wisdom in our souls?
Says Professor Fears, "History is our sense of the past. And these great books are our links to the great ideas of the past. This course is built upon the belief that great books, great ideas and great individuals make history.
