The Master Series for Surfboads

...with Jim Phillips

Sculpture how-to video: The Master Series for Surfboads by Jim Phillips 5_bulb Review this video!

The Master Shaper

This video was designed as an instructional course on surfboard design and construction with an emphasis on classic longboards. Master Shaper Jim Phillips teaches you how to shape a blank ready for the glassing room. There is no surfing footage just pure shaping from a Master in his craft.

(about 120 minutes)

The Master Glasser

This video was designed as an instructional course on surfboard glassing. Long time glassing vet Roger Brucker teaches you how to glass a board in multiple styles, from retro to modern. He also covers some of the classic resin and ink artwork lost to many modern boards. As with the Master Shaper Series this project was put together with instruction in mind.

(about 120 minutes)

The Master Shaper 2

The focus of this video is shortboard shaping although we did make sure to include many of the intermediate topics not covered in the first shaper video. This DVD has a much faster pace than the previous two but no less information. Also included in this DVD is an in-depth look at wooden boards.

(about 120 minutes)

This video was added to our catalog on January 01, 2000 in Arts & Crafts::Sculpture and Woodworking::Carving.

The Master Glasser: Very helpful ,but lacked some specifics. I do believe you could do an ok glass job after watching this video. You really need someone to walk you through the process and this video does more than that. The rental fee seems high but I still would rent the shortboard shaper after watching this video.

Jim is truly a genius when it comes to surfboards. The video definitely puts it all together for a "backyarder". If you are attempting to "build" your own surfboard this is a must watch.
