This DVD is by far the fastest and simplest way to get you off to a great start with Painter 9. I have been an exclusive Photoshop user and I also have done traditional media. It's only natural to want to see what Painter was all about. This DVD is worth the rental!
Very informative, great for a beginners to painter who can't follow along with ryan churches other dvds. I would recommend it over his others because he explains more what he is actually doing.
I wish I had seen this video before the other Ryan Church videos. This one explains every aspect about Painter and is an excellent tutorial if you are a beginner like me.
Great DVD! I watched it two and a half times during the week. I have just ordered a copy of it from BestPrices.com. SmartFlix should offer sales, I would have been happy to buy the one I had!
One of the rare sources for workflow and setup. Painting demos are fine and good, but here Ryan describes exactly how a master configures his setup. This is key, since it's like the Pit Boss explaining how a car is tuned before the race. Having an efficient workflow is a critical step toward being a professional. Thumbs up!
I am art professor teaching Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. This is a truly excellent DVD for starting to learn Corel Painter. He covers a lot and saves you months of work if you tried to get the material from books. He is an excellent teacher and I plan to rent his other DVDs.
I enjoyed this video. I can't imagine how much more time it would have taken me to learn the basics of Corel Painter using a manual. I know a little bit about Adobe Photoshop, and rented this video to see if I would prefer learning Corel Painter. Now I know I want to learn both programs. They compliment each other very nicely. Watching Ryan Church create his art was inspiring, and it built my confidence that I can use Painter with success. I highly recommend this introductory video.
Very Good introduction to Corel Painter. Ryan Church does a great job of explaining how he sets up his workspace, and why, as well as his method of applying color to a painting, and why. Just what I expected this video to be, and I'm glad I watched it.
As good as Mr. Church is at his art, one would expect a more polished approach in the DVD. This instructional DVD was full of "you know" and "um." It came across as though he hadn't really prepared for the task of engaging his audience with useful information. He seems to have the same problem as many other instructional DVD artists that I've watched: Everyone thinks they can record eight hours of painting a single piece, speed it up, and then lay in a voiceover. It just doesn't work for many, which is why I'm so thankful for Smartflix.
Do not be fooled by the high ratings. Buy a good book instead.
I really enjoyed this dvd. I found it packed with everything someone would need to know to get started using painter x. It goes over the basics and then way beyond. His tricks are really helpful. I only wish I could have had the dvd longer then the one week so I could absorb more! I think I will probably buy this one.
Ryan Church is a master in this field. The DVD was a great learning experience as a you watch a very creative mind at work. You will not be disappointed with this DVD. You may have to consider buying the DVD to really absorb his skilled techniques and work flow process. I highly recommend renting this and or all his DVDs as well. Smartflix you are absolutely a fantastic service that will undoubtedly do well in the future. The cost savings of your library is truly a smart & friendly budget saver.
