Blown Beads

...with Doug Remschneider

How-To Video: Blown Beads by Doug Remschneider 4_bulb Review this video!

Solid beads weighing you down? Blow them away with lightweight blown beads!

Doug Remschneider demonstrates how to blow beads with step by step instructions. He will show you how to use borosilicate colored frits and pwders, how to pull points, and how to construct a blown bead using the much easier "tube and rod" method. He makes 5 lightweight beads, and shows how to make a native head, which is one of Doug's signature pieces. As an added feature to this video, he shows how to turn a blown bead into a miniature perfume bottle with a flared bottom.

Remcshneider has been flame-working glass for 12 years. Having won two consecutive Niche Awards in 1999 and 2000 for flame-worked glass, he quickly became known for his animated goblets and vessels. Remschneider's work is in galleries across the country, and has been purchased by major corporations.

Remschneider's video is a good basic demonstration of how to make blown beads. However, the video is a bit on the boring side - his voice is a monotone, and the *highlight* is him saying, "Roll your bead in the frit like a leettle bulldozer." The final demonstration of turning a bead into a little perfume bottle is pretty cool - and definitely worth watching if you haven't seen the technique before.

It could have been more on the teaching side. When you fast forward it to 2x or 4x you get more of it before getting bored. The instructor doesn't look very happy going through the process. The tiny perfume bottle at the end was okay.
