This DVD provides an excellent view into some of the outdoor photography and animal photography techniques used by Galen Rowell and Frans Lanting. The DVD contains two one-hour programs, each of which consists of three 20-minute topics. I most enjoyed the topics that showed Frans and Galen in the field, at work making photographs; they gave me ideas to think about in my own photography work. The last topic ("making a photo book") was interesting, but didn't quite fit in with the rest of the DVD. Overall, the information presented is film-oriented, but is equally applicable to digital.

The photos produced by these photographers are renowned. This disk is largely narrative and reflective, meaning there are many comments about various photos already in existence were made. I really enjoyed watching the DVD, but I give it a four star rating because it was wasn't high on the tutorial scale.

I'll rerate this DVD as a five. After listening to it several times, I realized that it offers a few tips that I've never read in other books. Such masterful advice is difficult to find. I guess I gave this disk a low tutorial review because I was put off by the wordsmithing and excessive use of analogies. The authors are reading their speeches for most of the disk, and I think that it's not necessary to see their stoned faces. Instead, they should narrate over photographs.

Anyway, this disk is well worth the rental.

These two authors, never tutored, leave some tips and give you a sense of how vast this field of knowledge. Whether submerged in a river or sprinting down some mountain pass, give you the idea that HW (hard work) leads to success.

Understated and very informative. I think everybody with a developing interest in photography should take a look at this. It is great to get the "top down" perspective on what makes (and how to make) great photos from two of The Best. This rare to see big-picture view point more than makes up for absence of most technical details. They have some exceedingly cool stuff to say. Beware, the production is very understated (as are our 2 hosts), and this means that quite a bit of really insightful and dang useful stuff might just zoom straight past you undetected. Really - listen hard.

Definitely an interesting watch. As the hosts state in the beginning of the DVD, they won't discuss camera gear or F-stops. The topics became a little long-winded and philosophical and less about the creative process towards the last 20 minutes of the video.
