Getting started with Metal Sculpture, the question is "where to start". What tools and equipment do I need to just get started? And then what tools and equipment will I eventually want to add?
These are the questions that this video answers. Starting out with the most basic tools and then going on to tools that can be added later.
This video will definitely save you time, money and frustration.
There are cheap imported tools and then there are top quality tools. Both have their uses, but the trick is in knowing which one to buy for a particular purpose. The video covers this.
In my workshop I have many tools that I've acquired over the years. We'll go over many of these, demonstrating how each one works. If one tool is more than your budget will allow right now, maybe we can find a substitute.
Where to buy your tools is also covered. Some you may want to buy online and some you definitely want to buy locally.
Materials are thoroughly covered. Copper, brass, tubing, hot rolled and cold rolled steel along with one of my favorites RG45.
For many of the creative crafts there are catalogs and stores where you can buy everything you need. This isn't true of metal sculpture. Your tools and materials come from a variety of sources. Which may explain why there are not more people doing metal sculpture.
This video brings it all together and takes much of the guesswork out of what you need and where to buy it.
I know the exasperation of just starting out. Which is why I have produced this video so you won't have to go through what I went through when I started back in 1967.

I thought it was very informative. Just what we needed for starting our metal sculpture business down here in Tucson. I will be ordering more videos. Thanks, Susan
This video was a big help for me. I'm just getting started in metal sculpture, having a little background in silver soldering.
He clearly shows not only what tools are needed for metal sculpture, but also gives numerous suggestions on what tools you can "get by" on, if you're short on money or just starting out. From hand tools to shop equipment, what kind of torch to buy, types of metal to work with, etc., it is all there. He even gives approximate prices for various pieces of equipment, as well as where you can buy them.
Very thorough and informative.
I've been noodling around for a while, and had been struggling to figure out what equipment would be helpful, where I could find it, and how to use it once I found it. This video is a gold mine, full of great suggestions and a lifetime of experience. George is a treat to watch, and I can't recommend this video highly enough. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. A great way to get started, and I guarantee there are tips in here that would benefit the most advanced sculptor. I watched this, "Brazing with the Oxy-Acetylene Torch," and "Making Magic Wands" in one weekend and feel like I just got back from a master class. Highly recommended.
Covers just what the description about the video the tools and supplies needed for metal sculpture/fabrication of object de art. It does not cover any work. As he has other videos that cover the items shown in passing. The video is above average for a shop type vid, shows what the items are and where to get them. It also is well light and has good bright clean shots of everythibg that is important. For any one that is new to metal working/shop craft it is a must see. If you have a shop or have been doing metal type work for any time move on to his other videos.
Excellent and very informative video on the tools needed for metal sculpture. Easy to follow along. 5 Stars!
If you're a handyman or know anything about tools in general you don't need this video! It is very basic stuff, maybe ok for someone who has never touched a tool. This does not have any info on how to do metal sculpture. I think the title is very misleading, it should be " I'll point to tools and tell you there name". I hope this helps someone from wasting their time and money.
Good basic info with clear presentation. Showing what he uses and why is very helpful.
I would have thought some time would have been spent on what regulators and torches should be used as opposed to some of the more advanced metal shop devices, but overall was a pretty good video. Informative as opposed to instructional.
