These videos were outstanding. I rented them all and I was not dissapointed. Ramon takes you into his studio and tells you all about his setup and materials. He explains how to setup the light, model, still life etc. He then answers general questions about his life and painting. These videos were shot in a studio and there were plenty of palette, and easel shots throughout the videos. I would highly recommend these.
Ramon explains not only how he paints but why he does certain things to be more creative and not paint like everyone else. All the while, he is talking to the veiwer explaining his methods. Thumbs Up.
A very practical guide. He deserves watching several times and noting things he doesn't mention that happen. He does a good job of going into the painting and then coming out of it and talking about what he did , to paint artistically and talk in an intellectually instructive manner is a feat given how rare it is. His advice on setup and 'getting the basic structure down first' is execellent.
This is one heck of a great learning experience from a master artist. I'd recommend it anytime.
This is a very good pastel DVD. Inspired me to buy one of his books.

Absolutely wonderful DVD! I enjoyed every moment with Ramon Kelly and highly recommend this film to every artist. Thank you, Smartflix, for providing me with the opportunity to view and learn from this high quality production. On my new Samsung 46" HDTV the picture was just fabulous.
I just love Ramon Kelley. He's one of my favorite top 5 pastel painters! And this dvd, Painting the Nude female in pastel, was no less than I would expect from him. With great confidence, sensitivity and care he sets the stage for his beautiful model. His instruction is ongoing and so insightful - you want to hang on to every word he says...and his painting is just remarkable. I can't say enough about this. This is a DVD I would want to buy and watch over and over again. There's so much packed into this 2 hour session....one viewing is NOT enough!! No matter what your medium is to paint and your subject matter you will learn so much from this ingenious Master Painter!
I previously rented his pastel painting of the nude model and this oil portrait shows him living up to all of my expectations. He is truly one of the world's greatest, gifted, ingenious artists alive today. Don't miss this man in action.
It's hard to review an artist's style of painting, but I liked the video and enjoyed watching his method of painting and the ease of which he arrives at his destination so to speak. I think one can learn from Ramon Kelley because of his long standing as an artist and the respect that he has gained as a oil painter despite, his not having any real formal training in the classical arts.
Disc was damaged and new one was sent almost immediately I reported the old one not working! Great service! The video is "Painting a Still Life in Pastel" and Ramon Kelley is one of the most interesting and easy to watch teachers, especially with arranging the still life and showing you his set-up with the pastels. IF only I could take a live class with him---but this is the next best thing to being there. A detailed and well-produced DVD.
