This DVD is for someone who is finished with trying to use a commercial pants pattern and wants to draft pants for themselves and others.
Apparently there is an accompanying text book out there somewhere.
Margaret starts by measuring a model (she strongly advises not to measure yourself) in a leotard and transfers those measurements onto a chart. From these measurements she goes thru and figures what measurements and lines need to go on the pattern paper, where and how big the darts should be, the length, depth, and curve of of the crotch, etc.
Using pencil, ruler, and curves, she drafts, traces, finishes the pattern then shows you how to narrow or widen the leg as desired.
Making pants like this would be an ambitious project. I am an advanced beginner sewist. I am not, at this point in my sewing adventure, ready to draft pants but watching how it was done was fairly interesting.
After going over this video for 3 days, without the accompanying book, I should of looked at the final product. The only part of the pants that fit was the waist; the crouch didn’t work, the seat was ill fitted, the legs were awkward, and the total look was very unstylish.
This is a very good video, easy to understand and she teaches very well. Loved it.
The Islander DVDs are good, but I really don't want to take that much time to make a pair of pants.
The drafting was a bit complicated for me, I am not a pro. If there is anyone that would like to draft their own pants, this might be for them. Thank you.
