Charles Reid's Watercolor Secrets

...with Charles Reid

How-To Video: Charles Reid's Watercolor Secrets by Charles Reid 5_bulb Review this video!

This DVD tackles a variety of topics, the first being life drawing and painting. Spending time advising on specific color mixing and how to create flesh tones, Charles unravels the mystery behind the complexities of drawing from live models. Moving on Charles pushes the boundaries of landscapie painting as he adopts his loose style to paint a variety of landscape scenes. Reid's sketchbook paintings are accompanied by commentary and advice for an education in art principles and an exciting glimpse into the mind of a master painter.

Charles Reid has always been a favorite painter of mine. I love his loose approach and his expressive art. He is a true artist in every sense of the word. No projecting images or tracing here.

While I totally enjoyed the DVD, I have to caution the readers that this is not a how to production. And the "Secrets"? Unfortunately my biggest disappointment here is how he was convinced to do this DVD under this title.

If you want to watch a master at work and learn from looking at his method and how he develops his unique work, you will enjoy this DVD. If you are looking for someone to lead you by the hand, skip this one. This is not for beginners.

On a personal level, I would give it a rating of 5/5. I knew what I was getting when I ordered it. I have an earlier work of his. As a caution to others though, I will have to rate it a 3 since it does not deliver the "Secrets" that it promises.

An absolute delight! If you are seriously committed to use watercolor as a media of expression this is the video to see.I strongly recommend the reading of his books first. Not for beginners.

This is one of the finest DVDs for watercolour painting. It's so good that I bought my own copy. Charles Reid is absolutely superb in presenting his approach to watercolour vignette painting.

Excellent video for those who wish to look over the shoulder of the painter and hear him at work. I had special interest in his painting the figure portraits and enjoyed his almost stream of consciousness as he talked about his moves and his mistakes during the process. Very human, realistic and enjoyable

Excellent! To watch such a great artist paint from the figure and then on the same DVD paint plein air somehwere in the UK is simply the best.

I was disappointed with "Charles Reid's Watercolor Secrets" DVD. He spent a lot of time drawing. It was too slow for me. Not enough of the DVD was devoted to painting.

I loved it. Charles shows his human side. All artists have times when they have to get away from the work and come back later.

this is my first experience with charles reid. my first impression is that he is really a sloppy painter. at first i wondered why the floor was covered with material and then when i saw him constantly flick his paint filled brush on the floor i understood. still can't understand why when he was painting indoors he was sitting on a camp stool with a portable easel and plain aire paint bucket. i learned a lot by mimicking his contour drawing technique and have adopted it with great results. now for the way he paints i have not been successful in mimicking that, as yet. but it would certainly free me up. when they showed the finished painting it didn't look like the same painting he did as a demonstration but you still get the idea. i would definately recommend this dvd to anyone looking to free up their paintings. i have just sent off for his book watercolor solutions
