Recognizing the correct perspective is often the key to the success of drawing. Without the basic knowledge of perspective, frustration and dissatisfaction in your art work means you never quite reach y our goals or the quality of work you want to produce. This instructional DVD presents - with refreshing simplicity - an easily understood explanation of perspective, and gives exercises and suggestions for meaningful practice. Even though perspective rules can be involved and intricate, this tape does an excellent job of step by step instruction. It allows you to solve problems and even discusses the highly technical term or “eyeballing? the lines of a drawing. Gerald Brommer never talks down to his listeners. Even with such a potentially dry topic, this film is never boring. Gerald Brommer takes the time to explain the fundamentals being sure to cover all the applications and ‘why’s?. Brommer begins with one and two point perspective and shows how a few principles helps make composition easier. He explains a host of terms and suggests several ways to improve awareness to improve drawing skills. The film’s text is low-key, and brommer believes everyone can understand this concept, clear, simple, non-confusing examples. The workshop has great information for beginners and makes a wonderful review for experienced artists. Gerald Brommer never talks down to his listeners; he takes the time to explain the fundamentals using clear and concise examples. Basic Perspective Drawing serves as a great instructional DVD for beginners and reminder for experienced artists.

Using examples, the artist clearly explains abstract art and shows how to abstract representational images. He demonstrates four methods to create abstraction in a painting--simplification of shapes, distortion, emphasis on overlapping shapes and fracturing, and contour continuation. These examples illustrate how design becomes more important than the subject in abstract art.

This was an excellent video just wish it had been longer. I have never been able to grasp perspective until now. It is a must for beginners.
This video answered many of my questions. Now I have a better understanding of perspectives.
This was a great video. I sorta felt good about one point perspective, now I have it pretty well down. I could never figure out two point, and I actually understood what he was doing. The tool he used to explain/make the two point made it easy. I wish he'd spent a little more on 3 point, but I may rent again. I plan to let one of my art teachers know about this one. In his classes we spent a lot time on how to figure out perspective and this is a great video to help instructors and a must for beginners.
Peace BJ
I liked how the instruction was being played out. Very impressive and it helped me more than all the books I've tried to follow on perspective drawing. What I didn't care for is how one can't go back over a scene or section, it just plays from the start all over again.
This is very frustrating when you just want a part played over. I wish whoever makes these kinds of DVD's will figure out a way to correct this.
I do recommend it, I'd just prefer it in VHS for now and I'm giving it four bulbs because of what I mentioned already.
Mr. Brommer gives a first class instruction though the three point was a bit too fast and not as thorough as the one & two point.
Despite the many years I have been drawing & painting, proper perspective can still be a difficult task for me. This instructional took some of the mystery out of perspective and made me more determined to "get it right" in every future painting!
My husband, who is a retired technical draftsman, has tried to explain/teach basic perspective to me but of course, it was easier to follow the artist/teacher on this DVD. Highly recommended for beginners and intermediate artists; both young and young-at-heart!
What a difference a different DVD player can make!
We have an all in one tv that plays movies, reverse, fast forward with out problems, except for instructional DVD's I don't know why but they bug out.
We just purchased a stand alone DVD player and I now don't have the problems first associated with the all in one.
I am now able to go back to any section with out having the function start at the beginning again.
That was frustrating, and I thought it was a thing done by the makers of the instructional DVDs.
So this DVD is still top notch. But my original gripe is no longer an issue.
It's not bad in itself but it's bad because it's simply not enough material, only very basic: difficult to find less on the subject, even for free on the internet.
It is a short video but very informative. He has a pleasant voice and because of the methods shown it is not boring to learn. I only wish it could have been longer. The abstract one was fun to watch and gets your imagination going.
A fun way to expand your horizons and try a few exercises and learn some of the basic concepts and probabilities for abstracting your subject. Very clear directions
This was a really good video and explained everything needed. Thanks Bonnie
