This video would be good for someone new to casting. I am not and I was disappointed. I was hoping for something for the home hobbyist. Dr. Leeper’s equipment was from a university and not typical for a home hobbyist due to cost. This was just a quick overview of casting. He uses petrobond sand. I did learn about bedding in a 1 piece pattern instead of a split pattern. A better video on home casting is Dave Gingery’s Green Sand Casting Techniques.

[ ADMIN NOTE: The Gingery video was out of print when we last tried to get a copy. We\'ll keep looking. ]

Might be an interesting video if someone has never seen casting before, but didn't give any brass specific information at all.

I was hoping for some insight on zinc replacement (ie: how much to add, as zinc burns off during remelting).

There was none of that, plus the last two chapters woudn't play properly - just skipped and stuttered.

This was my first experience at renting videos, and I can't say that I was hugely impressed by the product. The service however, was excellent!

The information was great. The camera work and lighting was not. The detailed part of the processes shown were lost in darkness as well as much of the rest of the dvd. The sections where it would have proved to be very beneficial to have close up shots didn't happen. Close ups were shot for a very short period then the camera was pulled back. Quite unususal.
