Covers Open Bowl Turning and Hollow Vessels A.
The open bowl video was very well done. After watching this production, I understand how to properly sharpen and use the Ellsworth grind gouge. Great shots, and very well done.
Have not seen the second part to the hollow turning, but I think they could be easily combined. Information is good, especially for a beginner, but a little slow pace. I found myself fast forwarding. As in the bowl video, you get a terrific expalanation of the bowl gouge with a stadard grind as well as the Ellsworth swept back grind.
This DVD didn't show me anything!! I have a variable speed, dust control system and I don't need "Flexion Section". Not to good!!!!
A solid video. The tips of lathe setup were decent. Most were good info that I'd heard before, but one or two were quite surprising, make perfect sense in retrospect, and yet I had NEVER heard anywhere else (his secret to making a tailstock and banjo clamp down to the lathe ways was astoundingly simple, and genius!).
The stretching exercises were an interesting twist. They loaned the whole thing a bit of a hippie flavor, but are probably a good idea.
A solid "B+" video. Worth renting!
This is not a video for you if you wish to watch someone turn wood. This is a very good video on how to maximize the use of your equipment and space. Some very easy to execute ideas on improving your equipment or work area. Some relatively easy modifications to improve the overall experience of turning wood. This is my only review of the dozen DVD's that I have seen. After having watched this DVD I noticed myself thinking about it for several days. If you ever wondered "How can I do this differently? or What changes can I make that will have a huge impact on every project that I turn?" Then this would be a "Must See" DVD.
