I thought this product was excellent. Very good instruction by a person who is obviously an expert. The lessons were very well executed and worked in an order that made a lot of sense, as each one built on the previous one. However, with 21 detailed lessons on one DVD, it was a lot to get through. I would recommend at least 2 weeks of study time if you have anything else going on in your life. I had to go through all the lessons twice to really get the information down - once taking notes, and once doing all the exercises. Well worth the time though, if you are serious about learning this program and working with it professionally. I don't think an actual classroom experience would be a better teacher, and this way, you can go at your own pace. The lessons were so clear that I didn't have any questions for the "teacher" that hadn't already been answered in the material. It really is Total Training.
An excellent course. I have not yet covered all of the lessons, but I immediately began learning things I did not pick up from the 4 InDesign CS2 books I have in my library (including "The InDesign CS2 Bible" and "InDesign CS2 Classroom in a Book"). It's not that this information isn't in the books, of course, and I have no regrets about the books I've purchased, which have gotten me through several large book-layout projects. However, since InDesign is made to show visuals, it's helpful to learn the program through video lessons, to see the process in motion rather than through static screenshots -- it's a complement to the books (which I will say again are invaluable).
The lessons are logical and well-sized and the instructor organized and clear. This is not simply a "recorded lecture" -- it really is a focused presentation.
Each lesson DVD, however, does hold 7-9 hours' worth of lessons, which is quite a bit if you have other obligations on your plate. Even though you will save a bit by ordering both DVDs at once from SmartFlix, the one-week rental period may make renting one at a time a more economical option. [ NOTE: you can set your shipment rate to 1 dvd per week, and still get the discount, and get SmartFlix to space out the DVDs slowly, so you only get them as fast as you can watch them. ]
The lessons are QuickTime videos. They work well; however, the "Fullscreen" option is still listed as "in development" on the Total Training website.
Great! Actually, it's so good I plan on renting it again, because I think I missed some stuff.
Total Training has the BEST computer based coarses. Please allow for the 9 hours of playing time, as well as, practicing what you learned.
