My experience with Yupo has been minimal. This video opened many possibilities that may have taken me months to discover without its help. Very good information presented with quality production, lighting, sound. Recommended!
Regarding George James' videos......I thought they were very well done......George is a very good teacher and inspires one to try Yupo paper. It certainly would help to free you up!
I really enjoy watching this DVD on the Yupo Paper medium and feel the looseness, wiping-out and repainting allows you to really explore all aspects of your creative genius. What a great way to explore color and abstract and working out preliminary thoughts. I think Mr James is a good teacher who wastes no time to showing you all the creative possibilities up front. Very inspirational!
Excellent explanation of the specific techniques George James uses to paint on Yupo. He makes it look easy-- once you try it yourself you realize there is a long learning curve. His techniques however are adaptable to your own personal style.
I thoroughly enjoyed this DVD. I played it at least 6 times in one week. George is a wonderful teacher and inspired me to buy some Yupo paper and play with it. I have been painting with watercolor on traditional watercolor paper for over 25 years and have hit a wall on trying to express my feelings and subjects. I am experiencing a breakthrough and I want to share with others that they must try this. Thank you, George, and I plan to buy one or more of your DVDs for my art library. Diane in Louisiana
This is the second of his instructional DVDs that I have rented. I actually think that they are both really good, but basically I liked Design for Content better. And pretty much the same information is on both, this one just goes into a little more depth.
George is a real master with his art and Yupo. If you enjoy watching a master painter work and experience his creative thinking then this is for you. I learned a lot from this video.
I loved this video,as with all of George James videos! He is a wonderful, interesting instructor. He shares every secret and never gets dull! Eva Macie
George James has done it again. He has made me a Yupo fan. George holds nothing back. He is a great teacher and artist. The video producers, CCP, have mastered instruction video production. The close ups and information flow are great. I learned a lot from this one and highly recommend it.
George James has two DVD's on Yupo. If you must choose one, and you have no experience with Yupo, get this one. It's great. This one explains many of the techniques he uses, why, how, etc. The work seems disjointed for a while, but he's just showing you what you can do with the paper...then all of a sudden, the experiment becomes cohesive.
The guy is great, but I'd suggest you also get his other one, it shows a work in progress, the way he makes decisions, changes his mind, reworks things. Have fun.
Of the two, I'd pick this one, because he shows his thought process. It's wonderful to see him transform the painting, and you pick up invaluable tips not only for using Yupo, but for painting in general.
A lot of useful info. He did some things I would have never considered doing with Yupo. He makes it look so easy. Would recommend this video to anyone who wants to free up their painting style.
A very well done explanation and demonstration of how Mr. James plans his paintings. This DVD is packed with a lot of good information for anyone who would like to emulate his contemporary, 2-dimensional style. I very much like the way the DVD is structured so that you can follow his painting process with interruption but click on bonus materials which clearly and pictorially explain the basics behind it at your own pleasure; during the demo or afterwards. I recommend going through the bonus material first for a better understanding (at least the first time you watch the demo). Seriously thinking of buying this dvd
This is one excellent DVD on the introduction to painting on Yupo. Various techniques and tips are given and demonstrated. This is one DVD that should be in your library if you are planning on doing any painting on Yupo. Wish I could have kept it longer for another run through but time ran out.
Artist George James offers easily understood techniques for working on Yupo in a controlled manner. His methods and delivery are playful while producing a strong design with varied textures and values.
It went beyond what I expected, Would like to rent more.
It was very helpful to watch George James creating a painting on Yupo paper, as it has unique properties and requires unique techniques! Anyone interested in using Yupo should watch this video.
