Screen Printing on Glass 202: Photo Emulsion Stencil

...with Tony Glander

How-To Video: Screen Printing on Glass 202: Photo Emulsion Stencil by Tony Glander 5_bulb Review this video!

From windows to jewelry, fused plates to tiles, adding imagery to your art pieces with a silk screen can open up a new world of creative possibilities. This 2 – DVD set is an exciting follow up to Tony’s popular Screen Printing 101 DVD. The new DVD covers how to take images or photographs created on a computer and turn them into a photo emulsion stencil silk screen. Tony covers all of the steps of the process including; screen types, film application, exposing and processing the screen image and the printing directly onto the glass. This is a cutting edge approach to permanently printing "fired on" screen images.

DVD was a great introduction to the process of photo emulsion stenciling on glass.

Independent of his 101 disc, Tony give the newcomer to the photo stencil methods a clear, straightforward set of instructions, with good visual depictions, all one needs to get started on both the liquid emulsion and film methods. It does not cover multiple screens, but that is a simple extension of the technique. A great beginner’s guide, my only criticism is why it takes two discs, when each on is just over a half hour long.

If you've never done screen printing or photo emulsion stencils, this video will give you the basics. If you need more information on screen printing, Tony's first video covers the process in more detail. If you've ever done any photo emulsion stencils for sand blasting, the only new information here is applying a liquid stencil to the screen rather than using sheet material like Rayzist. This is a good beginner video.

This video, combined with Screen Printing II, is all I need to begin the process. Instructions were extremely clear, with excellent photos. If I were to add anything, I would have a section at the end showing work of several artists using this process on glass to provide inspiration for anyone who views it. I give this 4 1/2 stars out of 5.

This was an excellent DVD. Tony is a very articulate teacher. The steps were clear and straightforward. I highly recommend this.

I thought the instructions were well done. The list of materials was a bit more difficult for me to locate at normal screening shops in my city. The art stores were even worse. Wish I would of kept the second DVD for the additional information in getting the right materials. Both need to be watched at or close to the same time.

I Enjoyed learning the process of printing on glass, I just wish there was an easier way to get the same effect.
