Still Life Painting A Blue Vase And Flowers (Fruit)

In this video, you will gain a wealth of information on still life painting from artist Betty Carr. betty will lead you through a painting explaining the importance of design. She talks of the crucial compositional concepts which apply to all subject matter in painting. Thinking dimensionally like a sculpturer, but as an artist she describes the importance of applying the needed knowledge of color, value, temperature, edges, and the passion behind the work.
In Betty Carr's able hands, there's nothing still about still life. In this oil-painting demonstration, the teacher and accomplished painter once again produces a dynamic interpretation of a floral subject. Her work is based on sound principles of design, color theory, keen observation, and skill with the medium-all of which she articulates for the viewer's benefit. In spite of her knowledge, she never strays from the friendly, non condescending approach of a caring teacher, and of one who obviously loves to paint.
From white canvas to finished product, we see each step in Betty's process. Of special help to painters of all levels is her method for setting up the subject, including how she arranges the sunflowers and other compositional elements to simulate a spontaneous feast-for-the-eye. Her interpretation allows for inventive change. She alters the shape and color of the earthenware vase, for example, but not without explaining her rationale and adding helpful advice to aspiring artists contemplating similar decisions. As she paints, she supplies fascinating commentary on leanness or thickness of paint, mixing lively darks, and the placement of soft and hard edges. Viewers are at her elbow to watch as she mixes colors, sketches in the subject, blocks in values, and paints progressively from dark to light, all the while reinterpreting the set-up to suit her aesthetic judgment. She successfully completes a stunning floral painting in the span of 120 minutes. That's nothing short of amazing. But even more impressive, her expert tutelage amply prepares and inspires viewers to tackle their own painting challenges.

Wonderful teacher! Betty Carr really helps one to understand the effects of light and shadow in a painting. I was able to follow along and come up with a painting that looked very similar to hers. I would highly recommend this video.

Relaxed instruction recorded during a workshop. This woman does know how to paint light. She stresses use of colorful grays, variety of shapes, color and value. Painted a still life per her suggestions, and it came out great! Just ordered her book. Worth a watch!
