Filmed during a recent workshop he conducted at Liliedahl Fine Art Studio, Robert Johnson gives a tour de force performance of his elegant, classic painting style. Taken to completion, the painting demonstration provides the student of oil painting with a complete understanding of how a painting is conceived, blocked-in, and painted from beginning to end. If you are a painter aspiring to paint roses (or any still-life subject), this video is a must see!

Ahhh, if only I could be a canvas under Robert Johnson's brush. He clearly loves painting and caresses his canvases with his brush. He makes the difficult look easy and understandable. He gives a wide range of information so that both a newer painter and a more experience one will benefit and enjoy this DVD. Recommended!
Robert Johnson gave a wonderful performance throughout the entire video. A generous and very giving man, Robert is very patient when it comes to describing his process. Every color mixture and brush stroke is documented quite well with Roberts inspiring narration guiding every step of the way.
This is one of Ralph Liliedahl more brilliant productions. Camera angles were always more than acceptable, careful placement of lighting never a glare on the subject or canvas, with plenty of palette time showing Roberts glowing mixtures.
Robert Johnson will put the most petrified painter at ease and allow you to feel good about the painting process. His guidance is almost spiritual.
If you are into floral still life paintings, then you should enjoy this DVD set. Robert Johnson starts with his tinted canvas and takes you step by step on how he arrives at the final painting. He is not a gabby person, but gives the necessary information. The DVD quality is also good. Lots of close ups on the painting and his palette.
He is a wonderful teacher! It is for the more advanced painter.
The video by Robert A Johnson was what I wanted , I like to watch the actual painting process with the pallet set up brush choices. All of this and more was in the video I have sent for the second part. and would recommend his teaching to anyone. MTE
Excellent production values, watching his brushwork and process was very helpful.
This is the first Robert Johnson DVD I have viewed. I enjoyed it very much. The physical picture of the DVD was great. There are close ups of the still life set up, his palette, his canvas and brush strokes. He explains why he uses certain techniques for this particular painting and what colors and the linen he uses. He allows you to feel comfortable in wiping paint off the canvas and using ones fingers as a blending tool. He shows you how to arrive at the final perfect stroke. This stroke does not always come right away. I have been painting still life for 4 years. There is always more to learn and this set has given to me more information to work with. I think it is worth renting for anyone.

I am a real fan of Robert Johnson. This dvd is excellent.
Inspirational, beautiful painting, not a lot of specific "how-to" instruction.
A good teacher, explains simply and demos articulately. I felt it was a very good DVD. Highly recommended
I liked both DVD's of Robert Johnson, and I think I learned a lot.
I learned a lot from Robert Johnson's DVD set. Can wait to rent others.
A great instructor Robert Johnson. It was like being there-unfortunately I couldn't ask any questions though many were answered as the dvd progressed. I would rent others by him in the near future. I would especially would like to rent the azeala dvd but I would have to take a week off to view it. Thanks for your web site it allows me to view dvds that I was thinking of purchasing without having to pay for something that would end up sitting on the shelf. Keep 'em coming! Tom
The videos are excellent. Production quality is quite good. The information is exceptional. Mr. Johnson gives freely of his techniques, paint mixes and general information.
I learned a lot just by watching the artist's brush strokes. Would recommend!
Enjoyed this instructional CD. It was very slow moving which, I confess, made me lose my concentration. The artist was very skilled and he had many tips for the beginner as well as the intermediate. I just couldn't watch for any length of time. I had to view it in short 15 minute sections because I would get bored and want to paint my own canvas. It may have helped if I had been painting along with the artist.
This video was very informative and the artist was an excellent painter and obviously knew a lot about his medium. Unfortunately, it was too slow moving for me. I could not stay awake and watch the video. I had to watch it in short segments. I would recommend painting along with the artist. That may have helped my concentration.
