Chopping And Sectioning

...with Ron Covell

Bodywork how-to video: Chopping And Sectioning by Ron Covell 5_bulb Review this video!

Inspired by the Rod & Custom ‘Dream Truck’ Ron Covell and Joe McGlynn radically rework a ‘56 Studebaker pickup - giving it a 4 chop, a 6 section, and pie-cutting the hood. Every step is shown up-close, with clear detail, and the ongoing commentary brings out many of the ‘fine points’ of the work. You’ll see how and where to lay out the cuts, different ways to cut the metal, and how to fit the pieces back together to establish flowing contours. There are demonstrations on the English Wheel, planishing hammer, and Pullmax, plus TIG welding and plasma cutting. Special attention is paid to getting the hood and door gaps uniform. Although chopping and sectioning are radical modifications, Ron and Joe’s thoughtful, methodical way of working through the steps is easy to follow!

Ron takes a back seat for most of this one but Joe does an excellent job of laying out the process and explaining the steps involved. With all the potential problems and solutions that are met as well as attention to finer details I would definitely recommend this video to anyone considering this project

I didn't even know what chopping and sectioning was when I rented this video. I just rented it because Ron Covell was involved. Rons videos are great so I figured what the heck. Ron spends most of his time behind the camera on this one but you can see his finger prints all over it with it's step by step organized approach. Joe, who presents most of the video does and excellent job stepping you through the process of chopping and sectioning a classic pickup. He covers many of the issues you may run into if you should undertake such a task. Though you'd have to be quite a craftsman to attempt such a task it's still fascinating to watch Joe complete this project step by step.

This DVD is way too cool!

Ron Covell always has high production value in his training videos.

If you've ever wondered what it takes to chop or section a vehicle with compound curves, watch this DVD.

If you're in the process chopping or sectioning a vehicle with compound curves, watch this DVD.

If you're thinking about chopping or sectioning a vehicle (any vehicle), watch this DVD.

A follow-up with metal finishing on this same vehicle would be great to watch too.

As usual with Ron, a well done video. Thorough information on where to cut, how and why to chose cut locations. Good tips on bracing and aligning panels. "They" make it look easy.

Overall a good video worth renting.

Awesome video! I am also working on a Studebaker truck (a '49 model) and the fact that they were chopping and sectioning a like-bodied truck was just that much cooler. Great video, Great details. The length of the videos, and even the outtakes at the end were perfect. Ratrodders and trad hotrodders alike will benefit greatly from this video.

Good dvd, a little methodic, but great detail. Maybe if there could be just a hint of personality to the production it would be a great dvd.

I will use SmartFlix again! I really enjoyed the chopping and sectioning DVD. It was not over my head and was explained very well, maybe a bit dry and glib but that's ok...it's education! Wow, what a lot of work! thanks WD

Yes I would recommend your service to a friend! The Choping and Sectioning CD was good and gave me some great pointers. I would like to see more options on different types of cars. The car I'm chopping and sectioning is a 31 Ford,4-door sedan a Murry slant window.

Thanks, Rick C.
