This Craig Nelson, Drawing Video/DVD is great for anyone interested in drawing, whether you want to improve your painting skills or just enjoy knocking out a quick sketch. Craig Nelson, CAC will show you how to block in preliminary shapes, achieve proper placement and proportion, and how to pick out and render elements for a convincing three-dimensional scene. You learn how to sequence your drawing for the best chance of success, where to look for the brightest lights, anticipate soft and hard edges, and how to take advantage of reflected light and bounced color. Craig Nelson discusses and demonstrates the importance of using a variety of lines to make a drawing more interesting and contribute to the artistic qualities of the overall drawing. As head of the Fine Art Painting Department of the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, Craig Nelson helps you hone your observation skills and bring what you see back to your drawing (or painting). Craig’s drawings come to life in a matter of minutes. (Craig works from photographs)

This is by far one of the most informative video;s on this subjucet I have ever come across . If you are interested in getting started in pastel or charcol I higly recomend it . from start to finish you will be amazed with the techniques taught on it , and the images unfold before your eyes .On a scale from 1 -100 I would give it a 98.5
Two beautifully developed drawings. Craig Nelson is extremely generous with his knowledge and technique and takes you through his thought process from start to finish.
This video is more for an intermediate, than a beginning artist. A much better DVD for beginning artists is Betty Edwards, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. This DVD showcases the speed and skill of this artist, but it did not really help me as a beginner.
An excellent presentation. The pace is right, he explains the whys and how-to very well.
This is a new method to use pastel and charcoal for me personally. I liked it a lot! Very good. Not taken with the subject matter for the first part but second part was so exciting and intriguing! Very well done and very good to see how to lay light and darks to create the work....well worth the rental.
The video was a little more advanced than I am. It was however a good source.
It doesn't get any better than this if you are looking for pastel and charcoal handling. You must be able to draw well, otherwise this will be a struggle,as will any other medium.
Nelson draws beautifully and it's a pleasure to watch him pass on his techniques.
Excellent example of drawing with pastel. Good production value video.
This DVD was worth viewing. However, it was very basic and contained no revelations.
I really liked my first DVD. I learned a few new techniques and was very pleased with the presentation.
